new vs. used

I'm also in the same boat and have been looking for used tractor for over a month with no success. I'm new to tractors so I was at a Kubota dealer today to see them in person to get a feel for them. The BX is too small and the B seems like the right size. I wanted to see the L3400 but they didn't have one assembled. I was quote $28000 out the door for a B3200 with FEL and backhoe. Is that a good price? Just curious, but can you haggle the price like you can with a car purchase?

yes you can haggle over the tractor price.

I looked used for a little while but then realized that finding used is more luck than anything else. Sure it happens but usually you can find something sort of close, maybe more hours or a bigger or smaller engine, left outside and shows more wear than you would like, older than you wanted, too far away, etc. With new the only thing holding you back is $$$$. Plus attachments can usually be bought at the same finance rate with a new tractor.

CrazyAl has a good point, you almost certainly won't get exactly what you want in the used market. Even though a good deal can be found on a nice used tractor it most likely isn't going to be your 'dream' tractor. That is exactly what happened to me, I am happy with the tractor I got but it doesn't have everything on it that I wanted.

All these replies. Any updates on your end OP? We're all eager to find out how it goes for you.

With the great financing Kubota is offering right now, it should make for an easier sell for the wife...

One thing on buying used... Every time I've bought something used, I've had to put some money into it right off the bat. I'm pretty particular though and want my stuff to be in top shape....

Good luck on whatever you decide!

First off, thanks to all the folks who posted with their compelling arguments. I think she is wavering toward getting something new. Right now it's just a matter of getting all the ducks in a row and deciding on exactly which one is best. I have talked to the folks at Barlowe as well as Southern Tractor and both have givin me some great quotes. Now I just need to decide between the L3400 or the L3700SU...it's a tough call. I am hoping to pull the trigger by the end of the month, but I might just wait until I get the tax refund and put a little down to make the missus a little more comfortable. Trust me, I will let every one know when that happens...along with pics.

Congratulations! I'm glad you're getting closer!
I've been rooting for a one new for ya.

I've been in talks with Brady over my new Kubota and he sure seems like a nice guy with great prices.

Good luck and enjoy the purchase!
