Went and picked up my 3rd function kit today. It is a W.R. Long true 3rd function kit. I'm about half way done installing it. The instructions are complete and easy to understand. On my 4155 the banjo's are 1 1/8" instead of 24mm like the instructions say. No big deal there.

I took my seat out to make the install easier. Once the seat was out everything is pretty much right there. I did change the orientation of the electric valve on the bracket to make the hoses lay better. I am going to have to get longer bolts for the coupler bracket on the FEL and longer bolts for the electric valve bracket where it bolts under the SMV triangle. All the hoses, fittings ect seem to be well made and properly fitted for this tractor.

3rd function installed and well....functioning

Lots of different ways to route the hoses and hook up the 3 wire rocker. I'm sure the dealer would have done a great job but I'm glad I did this myself. I found a nice unused circuit up on the B pillar fuse box that I tied into that's key switched. I also re-orientated the loader couplers so the hoses would lay nice and neat and out of harms way.

The install was pretty straight forward but be aware if your a hurry up and get done person you should probably have some one else do it. Just a bit more time during the install makes a great deal of difference in how it looks and I hope, how long everything lasts.

While I was doing research on buying tractors I noticed that modern tractors are a bit soft underneath. Too many things like filters, hoses, wires and sensors that are susceptible to damage from limbs, wire and just high centering. On this tractor I noticed how easy a skid plate could be made to protect the underbelly.

Has anyone had trouble damaging the soft underbelly's of these new tractors? Also has anyone made a skid plate or have pictures of some for one of these tractors?

Glad your install worked out well. You will like the WR Long.

FYI, if this is your first third function, when you get ready to install or remove grapple tree puller or what ever you have on front, you'll want to take pressure off of your QD's. Turn your key to on but, don't start then cycle the toggle switch a time or two! Then key back to off.

If this isn't your first 3rd function you probably already know this.

I appreciate the input, that would be very frustrating to get loose under pressure. Its my 1st 3rd function. I only knew about releasing the pressure from reading on here about 3rd function stuff.

I don't currently have anything to operate off the 3F but will eventually get a 4n1 bucket for dirt work.

BTW I really like the mesh in the front guard of your tractor. I have a chunk of mesh sitting ready for the same project even though I plan to stay away from brush and trees with the front end until the new wears off.

Once you get you bucket, you'll want a grapple. And it goes on and on. :)

I think you already plan to have one male and one female QD on your 3rd function. As you get implements, for FEL, I suggest you install mating QD's so that your toggle always works the same. On my grapple, pushing top side of toggle opens lids, pushing bottom side closes lids. On tree puller, pushing top side opens jaws, pushing bottom side closes jaws. It will make switching between implements easy and intuitive.

The reason to release pressure is primarily when hooking up. If the lines on implement are pressurized it can be difficult to get QD's to connect. Even if you release pressure before unhooking, an implement, sitting in the sun can build pressure on its own.

Thanks for the grill guard complement. I'll find some of the construction pis and post later.
