Not poking here, but what reliability issues are you having?

leaks?

pumps?

picots / pins?

castings or weldments?

Material quality / structural issues?

Thanks for all the responses! Which lead to more questions.

Jay, What is 4WMFWD?

Mark

Four Wheel Drive is a term used when all four wheels can turn at some speed where the front and rear tire diameter are the same. FWA or Front Wheel Assist is the term used where 4 wheels can turn but the front tires have smaller dia than the rear. FWA and 4WD seems to be used interchangeably all the time. The big Ag tractors with the same dia tires front and the rear fits the bill for Four Wheel Drive.

What do you guys think of TYM tractors?
I found a dealership that I really like, really know their stuff, have been in business 32 years. They made me feel like I was important and listened to my needs and answered questions that I didn't knew I had. While I was there I observed how they were dealing with customers needing service and was impressed with how they were treated also.

I went there to look at their Mahindras and was impressed with them also, but he had a great deal on a T433 w/FEL. It is whole lot more machine than I have been looking at but for 2k less than the GL 3540. So I am looking for your thoughts (Good and Bad) on the TYM's.

The dealership is a little further from than the others I have visited, but these are people I feel like I really want to deal with so I think I will be getting either a TYM or Mahindra.

I was really impressed by them. Wish I had the chance to buy one but something more appropriate for my needs came up...

The TYM group is pretty quiet, I think it is because they have so few problems. Company appears solid, but who knows if we stay in this downturn for long. Either they will rise to the top cause they have great tractors or good prices or they will go under cause no one knows who they are.

If you have no immediate plans of resale I would buy it if you like the dealer.

I don't see TYM going under because the U.S. market is only a small part of their business. But, they could pull out of the U.S. market if sales aren't good enough. So far, indications are that they are committed to the U.S. I like their tractors too. I would have bought a TYM if there had been a good quality dealer even marginally close by.

No real work experience with them, other than 'looking'.

I was looking for one before I bought my tractor. The dealer quit offering them. He spoke highly of the tractor, but didn't have much good to say about the company itself.

I have been around tractors produced by TYM on a daily basis for the last five years (mahindra 10 series). With very few exceptions, these tractors have been very low maintenance. We have seen some cooling issues on the larger 10 series tractors. One difference would be the engines (Mahindra 10 series uses the Daedong engines up to 45 HP). The engineering, fit and finish on the TYM's has been excellent in my opinion. Scott

Thanks for all your thoughs and opinions guys! I don't have any plans to sell or trade once I make this purchase, but ..... never say never. I would like to have some comfort though, in knowing this company will be here 5-10 years down the road, for parts, etc.

The 5-year warranty is great, but if they aren't around to honor it, what's it worth.

Well I was able to get by the Kubota dealer this afternoon as he is only 25 miles away. I went with the idea of testing out the L3400, which I did, but he had a Grand L3540 sitting nearby, and I think I fell in love again. Wow, is all I can say! I have to say he did warn me though.

I also looked at the L3400 originally, and then I looked at the GL3240, and I was hooked. The GL3240 is a small tractor, designed for serious small ag or commercial use, the L3400 is a wanna be for weekend use. Play some serious hardball with your Kubota dealer, and I think you'll find like I did that you can get into the Grand models for a lot less then you would think. Do not be afraid to negotiate.
