Newbie Question - Getting an Attachment Home

I had a dealer load a six foot boxblade AND a seven foot landscape rake into the back of my K2500. I secured it with straps for the long drive home, and removed it all with a six foot boom pole. Not a scratch on anything

I brought my 5' cutter home strapped firmly TO the bed(setting acrodd the top of the bed rails) of a late 80's Toyota 4X4... Lifted it off from the side with the FEL, Piece of cake. The dealer had more trouble getting it on there than I did getting it back off:)

Good point. The fact that I carried a BB and a rake doesn't actually address the mower question. I have though moved two rotary cutters on pickup beds. I moved a six footer on a longbed by first putting square bales in the bed. The dealer used a fork lift and chain to set the cutter on the bales (they extended above the bed rails). I then strapped the thing down, unloaded it with a boom pole when I got home. I moved a five footer on a shortbed - but used 2x6 boards across the bed rails instead of square bales. Again, loaded by fork lift - set on the 2x6s - strapped down - unloaded by boom pole. Not a dent or scratch to be found anywhere

You can rent a 5x8 open trailer from Uhaul for less than $15 a day. I have an SUV but not a pickup so that is how I move implements.

Yep... just trailers for me when it comes to moving heavy attachments and implements (of course my pickup truck bed is far from empty!). So much easier to lift them off the equipment trailer or out of the dump trailer with the FEL. And when they slip a little as they are going up... no damage whatsoever to the truck bed. :)

If it is a full size pickup bed.. and you have a loader or boom pole to unload it with.. i don't see why a 4' mower would be an issue.

one thing though... make sure the blades don't get stuck on the wheel wells and bend when they load it into your truck..

I carried a 5' cutter home (about 20 miles) in a Ford Ranger bed. Boy, was that fun! The cutter was wider and longer then the pickup's bed so it straddled the top rails of the bed. This put about 600 lbs way up high.
Lifting an implement that high was no fun at all.

Anyway, I'd never do that again. I'd rent or borrow a trailer. A trailer would be lower and much easier to remove a pretty big (in length and width) implement from, IMHO.

Be careful, make sure you're tires (especially fronts) are pumped up and tie an old tire to your grill guard.

With a little thought and some care, you should be able to load and unload with no real trouble.

I've suggested to any number of people who bought used equipment from me to call a wrecker. More accurately, a rollback. For a relatively low fee, they'll haul most anything from point A to point B.

A rollback is a great suggestion, FWJ!

Even a blind squirrell finds an acorn now and then.

Roy, by the way, I'm coming after that hat! ;)
