Gentlemen,

I ordered a static thumb last fall and installed it on my L48. I have used it for so many things, it is hard for me to believe I did without it. I paid about 375? for it and it took me about 2 hours to weld on. It is a great addition that I would recommend to any BH user. A hydraulic one would be better but very much more cost.

Gray,

It's good to hear that you find your mechanical thumb effective and useful. I was hoping somebody who owns one would jump in. Like I said earlier, I like the idea that it's simple and relatively inexpensive, it weighs a lot less, and it's
one less operation to deal when manipulating the hoe. Another consideration is that fact that the L39s have internal hoe hydraulics. It might take some time to safely plumb hydro pipes on the exterior of the boom and dipper stick.

Superstar Here I come.

Tomorrow I have to remove a whole bunch of concrete driveway in preparation for hard set pavers. A perfect application for the BH/MT.

Speaking of application I'm soooooo close to asking for the financing application to buy the L39 sight unseen. There's not much of a line for them yet here where I live so I could get the first one....

I feel your joy you guys who are expecting Large orange babies.

Tim

You need to impregnate the application form (with ink) and make it offical... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Jim,

Mine wieghed about 105 pounds and has made little impact ont the hoes lift capacity. Nothing I said is an exaggeration. It has been great.

The L48 BH has almost the same specs as the L39 BH all it has is 1 ft more depth so the performance of the L39 should not suffer at all.

I normally set it at about 110 degrees off the dipper toward the bucket for the most usefull actions. I have seen better designed thumbs than mine but it came fully assembled and works great. It is AR 400 steel and is strong.

some things I have done with it. Pulling small trees out one peice and shaking the root dirt off. Stacking logs. Feeding burn piles. Lifting and arranging rocks. Hauling thumbs loaded with brush and logs. Handling concrete slabs.

You will love yours. Just a prediction.
