No NHL --- Does anyone care?

We have the Americans playing in the AHL still and since they are so close to Buffalo they play a few games in HSBC arena. Last game sold over 18k tickets for an AHL game. If we get desperate we can always drive to Rochester and watch the Americans play or head over the bridge to Hamilton and watch the Bulldogs play. One advantage of living on the border, there is always AHL. We also have the Fredonia Blue Devils college team here and they are usually one of the better teams in their division. So there is always hockey around here to watch.

As for your question, I have not lost any sleep over there not being any NHL games. What bothers me is that the players are so selfish they are hurting their sport and the hockey market. Around Buffalo a lot of people are out of work or their sales have taken a major hit. When you lose 16k people coming into the city every few nights spending money it will hurt the bottom line. I know a lot of Canadian markets are in the same boat if not worse. At least Buffalo had the Bills to be able to market still. What does Ottawa have?

I hope the NHL brings in replacement players. Let the NHL players go to Europe and we can have some real hockey back here again where the players actually play.

When I first moved to my "wilderness" I was a big NY Ranger fan. But there was only one TV channel I could get with a antenna. Bought the Old 10ft dish and discovered Hockey nite in Canada and the CBC with some Ranger games broadcast. We watched Canadian TV as much as US TV, My daughter grew up with Avonlea as her favorite TV show, then CBC went digital 4+years ago - made my dish obsolete, eventually I went digital but no CBC availiable, Basically end of hockey for me. With all the expansion in the NHL, it just not the same, plus without Hockey nite in Canada I have lost interest.

Other than liking Formula 1, hockey was the only other professional sport that I liked. Now I'm not so sure anymore. I just can't bring myself to like professional sports when there are all these overpaid, crybabies out on the court or playing field.

I miss it a little bit. Probably will start missing it much more onjce football season ends! Have been watching some college hockey so that helps.

I think it's too bad that this happens. Hockey was starting to be popular. Even my town in Louisiana had a minor leage hockey team and kids were playing street hockey. I went to a few games and really enjoyed them. With this development the local team folded, and the street hockey leagues died as well. I think NHL owners and players have shot themselves in the foot. I am sure hockey will live on but for the next few years the sport will definitely suffer.

I guess I didn't even know they weren't playin. That's how much I missed them. Personally I think all sports have gotten out of hand with the salaries they are getting paid. I can go to a minor/college leage baseball game here in Rochester, MN and pay a couple of bucks to get in and I will have just as much fun watching them as I do the pros. Yeah, pitching may not be as good but then the hitting isn't either. So it's even both ways. Oh yes the beverages and food isn't even a 1/3rd of the price at the pros.

So let them quit or bring in other players wouldn't bother me either way.

It's too bad Street Hockey went into decline. Sure beats having the kids with nothing to do.

FLYERS fan since their humble beginning. Not missing the season however just a little less time reading the sports page every night!

And here I thought NHL stood for New Holland Loader /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nope, don't miss it but also never watched much anyway. Like Jay, I'm not much of a spectator. I'd rather be doing than watching.

I get very irritated at the message many pro athletes send to kids. They are held as role models by our youth but many seem to enjoy living two steps away from jail /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
