We have the Americans playing in the AHL still and since they are so close to Buffalo they play a few games in HSBC arena. Last game sold over 18k tickets for an AHL game. If we get desperate we can always drive to Rochester and watch the Americans play or head over the bridge to Hamilton and watch the Bulldogs play. One advantage of living on the border, there is always AHL. We also have the Fredonia Blue Devils college team here and they are usually one of the better teams in their division. So there is always hockey around here to watch.
As for your question, I have not lost any sleep over there not being any NHL games. What bothers me is that the players are so selfish they are hurting their sport and the hockey market. Around Buffalo a lot of people are out of work or their sales have taken a major hit. When you lose 16k people coming into the city every few nights spending money it will hurt the bottom line. I know a lot of Canadian markets are in the same boat if not worse. At least Buffalo had the Bills to be able to market still. What does Ottawa have?
I hope the NHL brings in replacement players. Let the NHL players go to Europe and we can have some real hockey back here again where the players actually play.
