I may be a radical but the way voting fraud has been such an issue, Im of the opinion that only tax payers, & property owners should be allowed to vote. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
I know this will bring he-- down on my head, but it would simplify things a lot.

This is non political, you can vote whatever party suits your fancy . ---just vote---

I hope we can get beyond this kind of attitude. America is more divided now than it has been for a long time. I hope after this election, no matter who wins, we can begin thinking of this as one nation where we all have many interests in common.

I think many college students are sincerely trying to learn how the world works.

Speaking of people not knowing who to vote for, our X governor, you know Jessie the body Ventura, went to a bunch of the colleges in the Mpls-St Paul area and literally told them who they are to vote for. Didn't discuss the differences, just told them who he was voting for and who they should be voting for.

Sad day, an X governor and he is thinking he may run for President.

Reading this thread from as outsider and not really understanding your voting system maybe i should not make comments but i will.

The way i understand you vote for your president, has to be in my view a very inequitable system. Surly a president elected by the majority of the people is more equitable than by states.

voting in my view should be compulsory.

Arguments used in favour of compulsory voting:

• voting is a civic duty comparable to other duties citizens perform eg taxation, compulsory education, jury duty
• teaches the benefits of political participation
• Parliament reflects more accurately the "will of the electorate"
• governments must consider the total electorate in policy formulation and management
• candidates can concentrate their campaigning energies on issues rather than encouraging voters to attend the poll
• /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifthe voter isn’t actually compelled to vote for anyone because voting is by secret ballot. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Arguments used against compulsory voting:
• it is undemocratic to force people to vote - an infringement of liberty
• the "ignorant" and those with little interest in politics are forced to the polls
• it may increase the number of "donkey votes"
• it may increase the number of informal votes
• it increases the number of safe, single-member electorates - political parties then concentrate on the more marginal electorates
• resources must be allocated to determine whether those who failed to vote have "valid and sufficient" reasons.

Then the cities with huge populations would control the voting for the entire country.

Dave

If the majority of people live in the cities then so be it, surely that is fair?
