I read my manual. It says 540 pto rpm at 2829 rpms. My tach has the 540 rpm at 2500 rpm. The tach in mine is the same as the 2410. That is why the disparity. Kind of cheap on the manufactures end that they do not change the tach for the bigger machine. What about the gearbox whine. Will it quiet down with break in? Any luck with Amsoil in it? Thanks

i don't set mine at max.. but at optimistic nominal load. there is enough range in the tractor governor ( mine anyway) to take up slack for higher loads with no droop.

but yeah.. don't set at no load. that will be no fun as the governor may run out of range at mid load!

on mine I did a 3 way fill.

1 part 85/140, 1 part lucas hub oil, 1 part 00ep grease.

runs MUCH quieter. and no.. the hum or whine has not significantly changed since I got it.. so don't expect it to wear in or anything :) who knows.. might be spur gears in there.. and they are inherantly loud...

i have ran mine for weeks running a well pump and power on my farm property before I had utilities brought in. plus it ran hurricane emergency power duty ( i live in florida ).. the 2004-2006 bad seasons..

How did you come up with that mix for the gearbox?

How did you come up with that mix for the gearbox?

nominal fill was gear oil.. so that one was a given.

lucas hub oil is a common addative for applications needing more viscosity for wear or noise.. doesn't claim EP addatives.. so i needed to make sure there were other things with EP addatives.. thus the gear oil and grease.

00ep grease is a semi fluid grease commonly used in some HD mower gear boxes and commercial lawn care equipment. sbapper and stens both sell it. 0ep is available in a tube at JD dealers as cornhead grease.

i have added either, to 'tighten up' a lube mix in a gearbox for a couple reason.

1, steering boxes on some old tractors used to be gear oil sumps but due to sector seal leaks, thrust bearings were failing.. thus the mod to use 0/00ep grease. it doens't weep / leak out of a slightly loose seal like an oil will.

2, i have some very old tractors/equipment that actually were made to run a much tighter gear oil than 85/140 like a200/300w marine lower end lube. Not being able to find this.. I expiremented mixing 85/140 and 0/oo grease till i got the proper consistency I wanted.

ask a guy with an old farmall.. some of them run thick grease/oil combo in their rears. almost looks like tar coming out.. :)

So thicker would mean quieter? Is that what you are doing with your mix. ? What about 85w140 gear oil. Would this quiet it down?

thicker is quieter... imho.. 140 won't make it quiet.. it will make it quiet-er. adding a lil grease or hub oil in helps..

you old enough to remember when less-than-truthfull sellers would sell a truck and put a handfull of sawdust into the rear end in the gear oil to make a thick mash to make it quiet so they could sell it? :) thicker is quieter.. :)

Thanks for all the info. You been a big help.

you are the one doing the work.. I'm just typing what I've done. not sure if that counts as help or not :)

Looks like a new 13 KW surge NT brand generator is about $2400 with a two year warranty. So the question is more like is it worth the risk to you? Seems kinda cheap on one hand but maybe a decent deal on a 4 year old piece of equipment with no warranty if you trust the seller.
Sorry, not to be any more help. The devil is in the details. It could be fine or never work during the first power outage. If you get it then remember to pull the meter or install a disconnect to protect the linemen who are trying to get your power back on. Generators can kill.
Thanks

My power company buddies love to back feed into generators. If they hear them they do what they can to blow them.
