Just picked up a carryall from TSC for $129. Now need to get a pto shaft. Thanks for all the replies

I just mounted the gen to the carryall and decided to check all outlet grounds to the generator case to make sure they were all grounded properly which they were (for safety). My understanding of electrical is that the hot leads in the outlets to ground should show no continuity. Well I have continuity. Did I get taken on this gen? Is there a short? Could Soundguy test your unit to see if continuity exist on yours. I cannot hook up the gen because i am waiting on the shaft. I f there is a problem i would like to know asap so i could call the seller. Any help would be great. thanks

I think so far you are still ok w/o actually checking mine I can tell you w/o a doubt the case is a ground for the circuit mine is set up that way.

So I would expect logically that the outlet grounds to be the same ground but someone may disagree with me a ground is a ground?

I see you are wondering about continuity between the hots to the ground sorry hummm dunno on that almost think there should be because of the stator but elifino Soundguy will help I am sure.

i'll go check mine to tell you what a MM shows.. but remember.. making electricity is a basic concentl. big ball of wire and a magnet. one of them has to spin... geound and hot have to have a circuit path for electrons to actually move. so seeing continuity from the hot spade to ground is not really indicative of any problem.. YET

One more question. My 2610 has 20 pto hp. That translates into 10kw. Will I have any surge capacity above that? I am going to run my feeder cable to my panel and am wondering if i should run NM 8/3 or 6/3. The run is 75 ft

the 2hp per kw is a 'rule of thumb' not a carved in stone #.. plus.. your machine may actually dyno higher ( or lower! )

technically a hp is about 746w thus 2 hp is about 1246w however.. that's direct conversion with no loss. add in some spinning shafts and gears in an oil sump, gear reduction..e tc.. and that's where the 2hp per kw comes in.

also realize that the inertia of the spinning genny and tractor innards will give you -some- carry thru on load startup.

I would not look for realistic power generation for steady state usage OVER 10kw..witht hat tractor...however.. if running line.. I'd run line sized for the genny capability. as you can always use a different tractor... be a shame not to use genny's capability if available.

I just got the pto shaft and hooked it up. I need to address two issues. One is my seat has a disconnect switch when i get off it so the tractor turns off with the 540 pto on. Do i need to bypass it? The other issue is that at 540 rpm on the tach I am no where near the right voltage. I am getting 54 hertz 190 volts. I need to bring it up an additional 300 rpm to get it to 240 volts and 62 hz. I have a massey Gc2610 with 20 pto hp. Is this normal?

update: I should be getting 540 at 2500 rpm. I need to go to 2750 on the tach to get 60.2hz and 228 volts. That is 250 rpm over. Is this normal? WOW!!! tThat gear box is noisy. Would Amsoil quiet it down. Does it get quieter when it is broken in?

1, on many systems with a seat safety, you can set the parking break and get up / and / or flip the seat up.. check your op manual


as for the hz / rpm issue.

Unfortunately.. I'd say the tach on your tractor is less than accurate.

that genny is calibrated to make correct voltagewhen turning correct cycles. correct cycles are what matters the most. keep it turning to make 60cps everything else will fall into place according to your load and governor capability.

since rpm / cps is a locked ratio... when the gen says it is at 60cps.. then your input rpm is correct.. reguardless of what the tractor tach says.

PS.. I've seen some tractor tach marks that do not actually denote 540 rpm. I've seen everything from 530 to 550 denoted.. oddly enough.. 537 being common on some older machines..

Make shure your set the rpm with the genny under load. (max load preferably) this means you still maintain 60hz while under load. even if you pick up a few hz while under light load, that is preferable vs dropping hz when loaded.
