Now it\'s getting deep around here

MY wife sent me these to share with TBN, hopefully they haven't been posted already.

First question: What is he planning to do with that snow blower?

Second question: Is that a 4wd SUV, or a minivan?

I think that they are both out sight seeing. Just what part of the country were those pics taken in?

The Northern Part /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, well actually the North-Eastern Part. It is recommended that this "highway" be driven in July for the folks from out of town. Snowmobiles are said to work the best the in the winter.

Attached is another picture of this highway during nicer weather conditions. Any guesses?

Re: Now it\'s getting deep around here

We have a winner. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This is the Trans-Labrador Highway. The Provincial government actually supplies satellite phones to drivers who drive this road across the wilderness where it hits -75 degrees during the winter. It's possible for a stranded driver to be 180 miles away from the nearest phone. No cell service here. When a driver gets to the other side(civilization) they simply drop-off the satellite phone. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Can anyone say roadtrip?

Re: Now it\'s getting deep around here

I'm guessing that the snow was from many different storms. They say that the south pole gets less snow a year then where I'm at in central VA, but the reason there is so much snow there is that it never melts.

They've got snow left over from when our Grandad's were pups!

Re: Now it\'s getting deep around here

That's just snow from one season, but most likely several storms., At least I hope so. I've never been there, but people are advised that traveling that road in the spring can be hazardous because of washouts caused by the melting snow. Apparently, July is the best time for a trip down this highway, but there are plenty of flies to make it annoying. Anyway, can you imagine travelling 350 miles without even seeing a telephone pole?

Re: Now it\'s getting deep around here

That picture reminds me of the blizzard of 78 here in Indiana. There were some huge drifts. The county here was hiring people with dozers to bust through the drifts. I don't remember seeing any that tall, but there were some doozies.

Re: Now it\'s getting deep around here

Labrador is not far enough north for the snow to last through summer. It melts every year. Snow starts to accumulate in October but that's still a lot to fall in one season. I live in Ontario now and we don't get that much snow here but my walk behind blower has had a good workout this week. Need a blower for the Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
