Have not had the time to look into this much. After sitting for 24 hours it did start easily and runs good at low RPM's. Increase throttle and that's when the trouble starts. My mechanic friend said sounds ignition related and he too said sounds like the coil. So where is the coil on the EH-65? Please don't tell me I have to pull the engine again.

Does anybody have a better tele# to call for Robin parts than trying to go thru Subaru Industrial? Tried Jacks Small Engines and another place, can't seem to find parts for my engine's model#.
Was figuring to replace the starter while I'm at the coils but over $300 for that part...:(

I got my starter on ebay. I'll see if i can find the transaction and post for you.
I was wrong, i got it on amazon.
Unfortunately, it looks like it's unavailable right now. Cost in US dollars was $61.65. This one has a lot more power then the one i replaced.

Thanks Bob, they have the parts I need but the starter is still over $300! That one at Amazon was a steal except it's the 0.8 kw unit and I'm looking for the 1kw unit. I believe this is the "strongest" one available?

I have my car mechanic lined up to help me pull the engine and do the work. Going to hang a 1 ton chain hoist from the garage rafters to pull it out if sliding the engine doesn't give me enough room.

Are there any "tips" to doing this job? Are there any tests I can run to be sure it's the coils? My "helper" is fairly convinced it is the coils based on the symptoms but I sure would hate to do all this work and find it's something else.

Are you pulling the engine to get to the coils or the starter? Just curious.

I was able to remove the starter on my Kohler with just sockets and extensions after using a flashlight and inspection mirror to see what I was dealing with. It was tight, but once I figured it out, and did it a couple times, I can now pull or install the starter in about 5 minutes.

Never looked at my coils. That’ll come up someday, though, I’m sure.

Good luck with the task.

I just got my Robin with 55 hours back from the shop. Similar symptom - low power. Not so much backfiring though. They replaced broken rocker arms.

I pulled the starter on my Robin engine without removing the engine. If I did it again I would drill two holes on side of the PT that line up with the bolts. However I did it the first time without doing this. That was a long time ago. Do get the bigger more powerful starter.

For the coils I cut across the engine shroud from left to right along the crankshaft centerline.with a dremel tool and removed the top half. This is a good thing because you need to clean the engine cylinders fins periodically. This took about five minutes.

I'm debating on the starter since it seems to work fine, I just thought while it was out to do it. Now it seems I may not have to pull the engine?
Bob, can you post a pic or 2 of the shroud cut?
