Now you are getting older - what don't you do?

As the famous quote goes: "I spent most of my money on Alcohol, women and gambling, and I wasted the rest"
An updated version of that quote would include drugs.

71 next week, can't hear as well as I used to but won't need hearing aids for a while yet. Pretty much stopped felling bigger trees since I can't sprint too fast anymore and you never know when a big hickory will have a mind of it's own. Can't walk more than a mile without a hip reminding me that it's there and will be back and ornery the next day. Having to wear pretty strong readers in anything but the best light. I can still play catch with the grandchildren, but they can easily get around on my fast ball now, and my shoulder will hurt for a few days. Can't walk 18 holes, maybe 9, but can still outdrive the kids. Don't Scuba dive anymore as my dive buddies all died.
I'm luckier than a lot of my contemporaries, but I think it's important to push yourself, starting when you're 40ish or you'll be an old crock before your time. My old man was loaded and could afford golf carts, he'd carry his bag 2 or 3 times a year just to show he could still do it. Got hit by a truck while out running at 88. Some sweat getting exercise (work on the farm) sure beats the sweat people get in rehab.

I don't try in do what I did in my 50's and when I do have to do physical work it takes tree days just to get over it at 65.

TBN'ers - a hard working bunch, and it shows still regardless of age!

I'm looking forward to spring. I use a mobility scooter to haul things around and my O2 Tank. I can use the ZTR and mow where my wife rides. Peaceful and it is nice to see the things we've planted and how they are growing. But I do have an upstairs in the barn that I am going to forget about for another year - climbing steps just is not worth it! My wife has taken over the barn anyway, placing things here, and there and I am better off just not knowing!

I remember watching my father in law in his 60's climb the ladder to the 3rd floor to stain the shingles of his house. I admired him for it and used to think no way I could do that. (The heights- 2 floors was plenty - but 3? One foot in front of the next!) He was blessed with a good life.

I finished up our roof with metal and practiced 3 points of contact as I screwed it down and used to get around with my cane in my early 60's. 65 my two canes kicked in. One is just glad for what one has done, and there is still that that can be accomplished.

I think we have to be realistic about what are temporary setbacks, permanent setbacks, and what is good for the ENTIRE family. Suspect a fair percentage of rural dwelling wives may be ambivalent about it but are willing to live with it for the sake of others in the family. Once the major responsibility shifts to them, it becomes another matter to them, spoken or not.

"Sleep thru the night" Well, if I quit my afternoon naps - I might just be able to. But I so enjoy my naps. Besides with the weather the way it is - nothing that I really want to get started on outside. I'm noticing that it's a lot colder this winter - perhaps that too is due to age.

The mind is willing - the body takes caution.

I'm 75 and have so many defects it's hard to keep track of them but as I've grown older I've mellowed out quite a bit and don't take things too seriously. The most important things I've learned are that getting old sucks and gravity is sure a lot stronger than it used to be.

At age 65 I find getting up off of the ground or floor is a lot harder than it was 10 years ago. Used to not even hesitate if I needed to go under the house, now I get my son to do it. Still can get a lot off work done, but just takes me longer.
Your not likely to find me outside working in the rain and cold anymore, there's nothing that can't wait for nicer weather.
I do seem to be able puzzle my wife when she asks what I am going to be doing that day and I don't have an answer, she thinks every day should should be scheduled, I am retired and the only thing I schedule are Doctors appointments.

I don't ride horses [which I really miss] and I don't ice skate. Its a simple matter that I don't fall as lightly as I used to.

I also don't put up with nonsense -- especially from relatives. Pressure to conform doesn't work with me anymore.
