I've gone on a few ride-alongs with with several departments.

It was a real eye opener the stuff these patrol officers have to put up with... one call is someone looking for a lost elderly parent and next is someone strung out on drugs trying to smack down the officer and then spitting in the officer's face.

What I did see was a little respect goes a long way... one told me whether he gives a warning, a fix-it ticket or a citation has a lot to do with attitude of the person stopped.

Just be honest... seems to work... once you lie to a cop... your are toast.

Sorry, I don't agree! The worst mindset I had drilled into me growing up was to be honest with police/authority. That served me really badly on one occasion and never again. Be polite and PRETEND to respect them. That's what their Egos live for. Yes sir, no sir, and if you have to lie, remember not to let your eyes go up and to the left!

I saw on the news last night, that Ontario (Canada) law enforcement officers must now inform you, when they pull you over that you do not have to talk to them.

A friend always used my dyed fuel in his Dodge Sprinter. The prices are so close these days to make it hardly worth while.

I'm blessed to live in a neighborhood where I know the authorities by name. I will always treat them with respect and answer any question asked of me to the best of my ability. I have no reason to lie to them.

Having my uncle die in the line of duty also had a profound effect... I was only 4 at the time... but my Grandmother referenced him often the rest of her life...

When I was testing for the academy... she was very outspoken against it and it just happen to be when a new hire freeze was put into effect.

The militarizaton of our police forces is no small matter which goes on largly unnoticed by most. I always wanted to be a cop, and in retrospect, for all the wrong reasons, and why I also believe so many cops are cops.

This is what bothers me about the police.

Years ago they used to be "Peace Officers." Now it's "Law Enforcement." I'm sorry, but I don't need law enforced upon me. I do my own thing, I don't get in anyone's business and I'm a very good and respectful neighbor. I have nothing to hide, and I think there are plenty of criminals to keep the law busy.

OK, sorry for getting so far off topic here.
Red diesel is not going to hurt any diesel engine. It's the same fuel with red dye in it. The only difference is the tax not payed while buying it. I agree with the post above, if you call the DOT and tell them it was put in by accident it'll be over with.

To Protect and Serve... motto that was on local police cars for years...

Maybe it should have said "Themselves" after the slogan. Like most groups of humans, this is typical behavior. The fact, that they never rat out even the worst amoung them, is very disturbing.
