What are YOU expecting on a return from a UOA using synthetic? Funny the military does not have set milage for drains (90,000 lb trucks; I work there). All are done by UOA, for cost savings etc. UOA are worth there weight in gold if you use them correctly. Not getting into it since this is a old topic.
So if you are still holding the same why did you change? For top end cleanup is pretty lame. MMO will do it when added to oil. Years ago dino was crap for a turbo and you think it has changed? 800 to 1,000 F is great on shut-down for a cheaper oil.
Sounds like you are playing both sides. I am making it a point since you nailed alot of users for wasting money etc and now it is okay. Just comical since it sounds like they had added value [back then] that you did not get to there level of use yet. Nothing personal just funny ....Hence, why this is not the forum for oil talk...lacking....and yes I stop in at time..
i'm guessing you DID NOT read any of my post.. at all.
I said I WAS doing some UOA to see what's going on. you seem to state otherwise.
I also said on my turbo machines I WAS using synthetics. you seem to state otherwise.
What cheanged? EVERYTHING changed. oil types, formulations, machines, circumstances. everything changes except the old gassers I have.. and for those.. they still get the same old oil they got back 'then'. And I still like a cheaper dino oil in them for multiple changes vs a spendy synthetic.
As for detergent action of a synthetic.. I believe you are very much underestimating it's ability. in any case. that engine I put back together is a test case. It was designed for dino oil, ran dino oil all it's life, I swapepd it to syn after the rebuild. it sure won't hurt it any.. I'm checking to see if it will clean it any better. thus the test. I already had been using MMO in my oil .. so can't throw that into the mix.
this weird ethanol, water friendly gas we are getting now seems to be a problem for many small gas engine owners. on other forums I've seen a huge rise in small gas engine failures, everything from plugged and gummed fuel systems to seized engines. of course the complaints are tapering off now as the move to ethanol was a while abck and the damage is done and almost forgotton now. the antique tractor community is still seeing some effects due to low hour usage machines still subcoming.
I'm not palyiong both sides of anything. I like a dino oil for multiple changes vs a more expensive syn and a singe change on my gassers. same thing i said 10 ys ago. my gassers are still getting dino. brands may have changed.. and weights, but that's about it. I used to keep some on 30w etc.. and switched just about everything to 15w40 foe a couple reasons. keeping 1 'most' used oil around lets me stock less oil types, plus I can buy in more bulk for more cost savings. 15w40 is a good multi weight oil that has good temp range coverage for the region I'm in. it's a decent weight oil for a machine designed to run 10w to 20w in the winter, 30w normally, and 40w in hot weather. pretty much covers the entire range int he owners manual, all in 1 oil. add to the fact that the epa zapped zddp levels in S rated oil a few years back, thus using a C(s) rated oil is a wise choice for flat tappet engines.
as for changes.. i have some diesel equipment now.. new equipment.. new practices.
if you'd like to argue, lets go to email.
if you'd rather sling mud.. lets not do it at all.
I consider this my last post on this topic cluttering the forum. again.. you've been invited to email if you wish.. or if you want to sling mud..I'll just add you to the ignore list. I've no desire to clutter this forum up with someone attacking me on a difference of practice, on different equiopment that I didn't own 10ys ago.
i've explained my thoughts pretty clearly, not hasing words. i explained what i did for servicing practices then and now, and why I made those choices. you can choose to argue with what i did or why.. or move on... your call as I'm done on the topic. I've explained myself about 4 times now, as youve asked. clearly. in the open.
