Had a Citation with the 4 cylinder engine and the four speed - other than the hood separating (the "glue" they used to hold it together didn't work or wasn't there) and the headliner falling down, seemed OK enginewise - got well over 100K out of it and it still seemed peppy. Brother-in-law owns a auto shop and changed the oil & filter every 3K.

Ask and you shall receive......... This picture was taken a fall car show that was a day of nothing but intermittent rain. One of the few times that it has actually been out in the rain. The vehicle has just about every factory & dealer installed option that was available for the 1964 model year, including the very rare Kelsey Hayes Wire Wheels. This car was reported to have been the 1964 New York Worlds Fair Chevrolet show car, however I have never been able to prove this fact. It is known that it was built for the Chevrolet show car circuit, by the fact that upon disassembly for restoration all the show car stickers were found on the individual components. It shares the garage with my BX22...

I bought my sister in law a Chevette to drive while she was going to college. The power slowly kept getting worse about that time it broke the timing belt. While checking out the engine the cam needed replaced. Ran great after that.
Put a cam in another Chevette for a friend as well.

The cam in the 82 Camero spec'd out ok. Put a new one in anyway that was a tad better, just had to do it.

Oh yea....had neighbor had a Citation and drove it till it was falling apart. Don't know how many miles a bunch though.

The cam problem in the Chevy's was due to soft metal not lubrication. I did contract work for a GM dealer when that was going on.

Another thought....
The soft GM cams might have lasted if synthetic oil was used instead of conventional /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A lot of K-car cams went bad in the early 80's,first year or two of production. They were starving for oil at cold start up. Chysler went with a smaller oil filter for faster oil circulation. That's one of the reasons we have tiny filters today. And lighter oil. Heavier isn't always better. The faster oil gets to those internal parts , the better.

Junkman,
Just saw the pic of your Corvair. Looks great!
That took me back to the teenage years. I had a white Corvair as one of my 1st cars.
It was in pretty good shape at the time....wish I still had it today....would love to have one in mint condition....I don't care what Ralph Nader says about 'em, I have always been fond of the Corvairs. They're cool in a nerdy sort of way I guess. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
