Your points are well founded but note I have not decided on anything yet! I'm just doing a lot of research. We've actually known from the time we bought this place that we'd WANT (read, not NEED) a tractor at some point. Given the limited amount of storage space we currently have it makes more sense for us to get a tractor now than to buy a bunch of specialty tools... garden tractor, roto tiller, snow blower etc. Plus most specialty tools have a very poor resale/trade-in value. This forum seems to be frequented by many folks in a similar situation and we're all free to go along for the ride. I know I welcome everyone along on my quest and I can assure you that my wife (who really is smarter than me!) is fully in the loop! Besides we're very fortunate in that we can afford whatever choice feels right.
I do appreciate your thoughts and everyone else's too but of course in the end everyone has to make their own choices.
BTW - We got our B7500 mainly for some landscaping & road maintenance. However, for the last several years we've been running to town and renting a brush cutter for our fire break a couple times per summer. At about $120/rental, that ended up being about $240/year for the brush cutter. Made it pretty easy to justify the $800 for the brush cutter attachment. I'll spend less time doing the brush cutting (and no trips to town), plus it will pay for itself in only 3 years!
New guy here, also looking long and hard at a B7500.
Lot: 3.5 acres, largest flat area is ~1 acre pasture. ½-acre pond, lots of different elevations. Lots of rocks lurking just below the surface.
Don't need a mower--already have the DR Field & Brush Mower with the 15HP twin (& love it!) but will need loader, scraper, tiller, etc. for land prep. Plan to add small backhoe next year for re-working irrigation & other small (<4' deep) trenching.
Looked at BX2200 but B7500 is about the same footprint with mucho mas hydraulic juice and better loader. 2410/2710 may be too big to fit in some of our nooks and crannies--buddy just about wedged his 590 Super L here last summer.
Anybody got a 4-way bucket on these little guys?
Want to be able to put it in the pickup truck bed--am I dreaming?
Last September my Kubota dealer price a B21 w/frontend loader,backhoe,tire chains,mirror.for $30,300.oo.
At that time I had my eye set on a L35 w/the same attachments.
Not sure what a B2410 w/attachments go for.
Yeah, just checked with a couple of dealers and the B21TL is ~18,700 versus $25,600 for the B21TLB. Pricey and the local dealer doesn't even stock one for me to look at. One local rental yard has a couple of B20s--how similar are they?
Seems like a pretty tough little tractor. Lower than the B7400/7500/2410 it appears, and the sloped hood is nice for visibility.
I was just getting geared up for a $12-15k purchase but this may bust the bank. Agonizing...
I'm not so sure that the B21 is physically smaller than a B7500 or B2410 - may be closer to a B2710, if you are worried about getting into tight spots on your property. Carver Equipment's web site is great for finding machine dimensions and weights.
I'm not much help on the B20 model and ownly seen a couple of them in for service at my dealer thru the years.
It seems the B21 has somewhat replace the B20 in my area. B20 just one step below the B21 and a step above B2910,for the B20 for light industrial use etc..
Will the rental store let you test the B20 in there yard, also your dealer let you test the B21,B7500 etc..
If your planing on spending 12&15 on 20hp tractor w/fel&bh new,you just might have to dig a little deep for somemore coins. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
By the sounds you need to regroup and reconsider your check book, use for the tractor now and in the future,specifications...heck most of us have gone thru this..call it a learning experience. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
True the B21 is in fact more beefer which means more weight and the horse power about the same also the wheel base, but the fel & bh has more reach which means more iron hanging out there to watch, and that could cause a problem in tight area. The B21 consider for light industrial use mostly I believe...little muscle machine. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
