Where is GSXR1100 when you need him?.[/quote]

I miss him also. I think he was kicked off the site a while back. Haven't heard from him since. As far as the cost difference between rp & amsoil , I'll stay with amsoil

I read that study after seeing a post on BITOG forum about it. Not some of Amsoil's best marketing guff. Numbers don't crunch correctly and is obviously more fiction than fact. They more or less ripped that study apart on that forum. Even some of the Amsoil dealers said it wasn't some of their best work.

I agree not the best "show-n-tell" but, taking the other side here, how about any issues with rad, EGR, PCV, TB and so on?

But if looks like it needs a flush here. Then again why in the world would they use the bottom of the line ASL oil?

As I stated before take anything on BITOG with salt. Since some users of there are pimping their own products. Lots of users of there will tear apart anything to due with anything Amsoil or not. Then some others will hash it out since it is synthetic oil. Then the dealers with we cold do better. Or some will say anything since they are certain "brand" oil only buyers. In the end, I say find what oil fits your budget first then so how it does with real world numbers.

In the end, even if only half the baseline savings where achieved, that is some nice $$$$ in their pocket.

That site is full of Amsoil haters. They attack it all the time and often you find out it some 18 yo or some "expert in his own mind".

ASL is not the bottom of the line oil, the XL oils are.

Even some of the Amsoil dealers said it wasn't some of their best work..

Those dealers will say anthing to keep the customers they have over there. They like turn coats and if they (the dealers) say something negative, the Amsoil haters praise them.

Even DieselPower is a competitor so I dont' know it we can trust his opinion to not be biased?

I am prejudiced since I have been using Amsoil since 1975ish.

That's true, I am a competitor. But I have no problem with Amosoil. I didn't say I didn't think they made good products. I said their presentation left some doubt. More a marketing department problem than a actual product problem. I would never tell someone that Amsoil does not make top of the line lubricants, they do. I have used some of their products myself in the past and was happy with them. That being said, I alway's get the feeling Amsoil toot's their own horn to much. They make a great product, why all the competition bashing and questionable literature. The product speeks for itself along with happy customers.

True, but there ASL is there bottom of the line synthetic (grp 4) here. I should have stated that.

It is also funny there XL WAS a grp 4 since it became a $$$ issue and degraded it to grp 3.

The XL line is Gr III oil to compete with the like of Mobil 1 and Castrol to mention a few, after the court ruled that Gr III Syntec could be called synthetic. People called Amsoil on the carpet for not being API certified but when they came with a line of API oils, people call it down grading?

The XL line is mostly for the quick lube market and those that insist on API certified oils and are not concerned with extended oil drains. To upgrade that oil would mean it could not be API certified.

If all the advertising claims and product comparisons they make were questionable, you would think someone would have proved them wrong by now? I don't see them bashing the competition but comparing thier products to it. How else can you show your product it better? Amsoil has had to fight big oil for most of its 34 yrs of existance.

It is called downgrading, yes, downgrading since it WAS a group 4 (not a group3) a few years ago. It was not due to “competing” etc. It was due to the group 4 not making enough money. Maybe I am wrong but that is from what I have read and talked with other dealers. So now keep the same label (aka synthetic) and make more $$$$.

Is it still a good oil, sure but not cost effective by any means. Yes, it is mostly a quick lube oil and getting people to start using Amsoil but look at the price. It is within a small percent (real small) to a group4 (ASL and so on) etc. Then again what is using their XL line getting you? You can only go “up to” 7,500 miles. Heck, you can do that with a good group 2 oil.

I like Amsoil but their “tests” are biased and most times do not even compare the same weights of the same oil in there tests (same one too). Also when did they EVER test against Redline, Motul, Mobil EP……Nevermind the famous 4-ball deal.

To close, they are in a “fight” since right off the start you need to “find” a dealer to buy the oil. Narrow market. How about not many manufactures liking “extended drains either”. I like their oils etc and have used them and still do in some apps; however, once you try some other oils/product and use UOA, you can get the same outcome with less initial and overall costs.

I would buy Amsoil if I could find it localy at comparable prices to other full synthetics. I am not buying my oil mail order.
