I explained to Don that I formed up the beam first. Then I decided where I wanted the water and electrical to come in to the building.

I cut two pieces of pvc at an angle and then drove them into the ground about a foot. This made it easier in this situation than digging out a cavity, roughing in the plumbing, and then filling the cavity for forming and pouring the beam.

Then I cut off the angle cuts and took off with the plumbing and electrical conduit.

This is in the county way out in the country. But I personally don't like water and electrical in the same trench. I ran the electrical about thirty inches deep and the water about eighteen.

A couple of years ago I put an auger through power and water at the same time. It was about a foot deep with direct buried romex and that black water tubing that comes in big coils. What made it extremely interesting was the electrical wasn't on a breaker and straight off the meter. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The auger came out of the hole automatically when it heard what sounded like a gunshot. I found the tap and cut it hot with bolt cutters. It's no fun hitting water and power at the same time.

Electrical:

Here is where I need help.

I will be connecting the carport/storage area to the cabin's electrical service.
The cabin has a 200 amp service breaker box.
The distance from the cabins box to the carport/storage area box will be 110'.

I want to be able to run my Miller MIG welder which runs on 20 amps.

Where I will be digging is also the walking path so I also want to run the electrical for lighting the path. The carport's door is 90' from the cabins porch. I would like to be able to turn on the lit path at either end. I also would like to be able to turn the lights on in the carport from the vehicle (I like to see the snakes before they see me).

I'm thinking a 50 amp breaker box in the storage area.

What size wire do I need? I will be installing it in PVC.

Any suggestions on the proposed electrical run?

Don, I am not a licensed electrician only an opinion.
I would run 4ga wire off a dual 50amp breaker to another 50amp breaker box.

Here's why we do the ledge on the slab and beam. It not only helps seal the bottom of the building. It's a safety item when you consider the damage siding can do to a horse. This is a stall door to an outside paddock.

One of the things we do is put on the sheeting for the roof on the roof.
