i just have to point out some of the positive things about the new gm 1/2 ton you might consider. i ordered mine in october and took delivery in late november, i now have 5k miles on the unit, i am alos a gm tech so any other truck is not even an option to me, but i wont bash the toy.
#1 5 years 100,000 mile powertrain warranty
#2 367 hp 376 ft lbs torque
#3 9 1/2" rear end (same as 3/4 ton)
#4 locking rear diff, not limited slip
#5 10,500 towing with crew cab (toy is less w/ crew per msn)
#6 dod displacement on demand ( v8 power when you need it v4 when you
dont")
#7 onstar and navigation systems
#8 rear seat audio and dvd from factory
i bought the vortec max package to get these features, my cost was 42k but the truck listed for 48k since i work for a dealership i got the deal.
also I dont know about the toy's brakes but the gm has 4 wheel disc and they are great, this is my 3rd 6.0 engine and ive put 130k on the first w/o ever doing any sort of brake service, my wife drives the deanli i had and it has 60k on it and no brake concers. Im not your averge 1/2 ton owner i pull a 18' "car hauler" type trailer almost everyday w/ my 07 and the power is great at any speed. i have yet to find another 1/2 ton to take me from stop light to stop light, people around here think "look new truck lets race",lol.
im looking into a work truck now and it will be a 1 ton with a dump bed and a gm

Its nice to see GM coming out with a better truck. Their trucks were always "just OK" in my opinion. They always seemed to lag on areas where it counts. I think they were the last with 4 wheel disk brakes or was that Dodge, last to go with OHC or are they still using push rods? Last to go to mutltiport fuel injection. I would definitely take a look again at a GM. I know in the past everything from universals to front axle spindles were much smaller then what Ford and Dodge used especially on 3/4 ton and up and 1 ton models. Maybe thats where the softer ride came from. Glad its working out for you. They do make a nice looking truck. I wonder if the fuel economy on the dod 8 cylinder/4 cylinder saves on fuel compared to the competition? I know Honda uses it but with little if any improvement in economy especially when compared to the competition.

I have the print-out on the 07 Tundra I just ordered. (BTW, I do not know if Edmunds is accurate but my negotiated price was $1,000 under Edmunds "TMV" price, so they may be dealing a little.)

The print-out quotes a 10 1/2 inch ring gear rear end, 10,300 for towing, and payload of 1655.

The Dallas Morning News had a story on the Tundra this weekend. What was interesting to me was the 0 to 60 times for the big five (GM, Dodge, Ford, Toyota, and Nissan). Toyota kicked butt with a 6.0. Dodge with the hemi brought up the rear at almost 8 seconds. GM was second with a 7.0.

The 6.0 time 0 to 60 is impressive. I figure it has to be the rearend gears and that six speed transmission. However, doesn't matter, 6.0 is muscle car whupping stuff. Just don't mess with some of the little foreign cars light to light. The Evo and Subaru will destroy just about anything light to light.

If I was in the market for a new pickup I'd be looking at Schwalbe Trucks

"I do like the toyota commercials, showing the difference between their parts and competitors' parts gets the attention of manly truck buyers.

Start watching how the parts are displayed.
For the rotors: the competition wheel side out, Toyota wheel side in.
Ring gear: Competition held back, Toyota held forward.
Transmission: When did you ask for a 6speed transmission for your birthday?
Towing up ramp: Voice over "It's tough pushing 10,000lbs up a steep grade" Fact: It is a pulling (not pushing - That would be reverse) a 5000# trailer.
Stopping on other side makes the brakes look really good. Look at the fine (and hard to read) print - It indicates the trailer is equipped with electric brakes.

Sorry, I try to stay out of vehicle discussions since there are typically enough other opinions out there. In a case like this where the truth is streched beyond belief, you will get my view.

Working,

As Harv has pointed out Toyota has incredible acceleration when equipped with the 5.7 and 6sp transmission, as it should with a 1st gear of 3.333 and a rear axle ratio of 4.30. Watch out it will kick you butt. It will accelerate quite well.

Popular Mechanics rated the 07 1/2 tons and each had a particular strength.
Rank, make, MSRP as tested and best attribute.

1) Nissan Titan $37,125.00 Best in the dirt.
2) Toyota Tundra $43,500.00 Fastest.
3) Chevrolet Silverado $41,494.00 Favorite on the freeway.
4) F150 King Ranch $44,945.00 Best handling/most comfortable.
5) Dodge 1500 Laramie $47,125.00 Good for Off-roading

Serious dollar bills here folks. And I thought my 98 F150 Off Road was too much.....

"To blindly buy a Ford or GM because it is "American" and then feel that you really did not buy the best truck does nothing for you.

It keeps me and my neighbors working. I will never by a foreign car/truck (or American car/truck not assembled in US) regardless of quality.... call me stupid... I call foreign car drivers living in America stupid.

This to me makes no sense. I paid about $43,000 for my 06 1ton PSD Lariat with 1000lb heavier front and rear springs integrated tow controller and pretty much everything you can get minus a sunroof. Why in the world would you spend 40,000 on a half ton towing vehicle?
