This to me makes no sense. I paid about $43,000 for my 06 1ton PSD Lariat with 1000lb heavier front and rear springs integrated tow controller and pretty much everything you can get minus a sunroof. Why in the world would you spend 40,000 on a half ton towing vehicle?

Because people are willing to pay it, they can do it. That segment of the market is much larger then the "towing folks" segment. Me, I buy used.

I do not disagree with used you can do very well that way. I am 40 this year and this is my first new truck. I have done all used before this as well.

But the reason I said that about the prices is because the thread starter asked about a Toyota for towing. Just makes no sense unless you get that truck for about 10-13,000 less than MSR.

I just called one of our local toyota dealers and for a crewmax with leather backup sensors tow controller configured as close to my truck as I can a woping $46,900:eek: . They were also not willing to neg.

I'm sorry that is way too much for a undersized tow vehicle. ;)

If you are looking at 0-60 times less than 9+ seconds than, IMHO, you are looking at a grocery getter/urban cowboy type vehicle, not something you need for serious work.

My Ram 2500 probably takes 11+ seconds 0-60 when it's empty. But it probably takes about 12 when it's pulling our horse trailer. Wonder what the 1/2 ton hot roads will do when they are pulling a serious trailer, and if they'll be getting 14+ mpg too.

That 2008 F250 crew cab 4x4 automatic leather seats rigged for towing I looked at Saturday is starting to look cheap ($43000)

I would also like to say that if one was willing to come to Denver that I have a friend who works at a ford dealer here in town that I could get them in touch with him for a better deal than normal.:D

option codes: BU, DZ, PN, EC, CK, HM, MG, UT, OF,
accessories: brushed stainless Toyota OEM running board
Classic soft trim leather

Its nice to see GM coming out with a better truck. Their trucks were always "just OK" in my opinion. They always seemed to lag on areas where it counts. I think they were the last with 4 wheel disk brakes or was that Dodge, last to go with OHC or are they still using push rods? Last to go to mutltiport fuel injection. I would definitely take a look again at a GM. I know in the past everything from universals to front axle spindles were much smaller then what Ford and Dodge used especially on 3/4 ton and up and 1 ton models. Maybe thats where the softer ride came from. Glad its working out for you. They do make a nice looking truck. I wonder if the fuel economy on the dod 8 cylinder/4 cylinder saves on fuel compared to the competition? I know Honda uses it but with little if any improvement in economy especially when compared to the competition.

duno about the years for what your talking about with ford and dodge but gm had 4 wheel disc in 99 and multiport truck engines in 99. the biggest failures i see from true 3/4 and 1 ton work trucks are 90% lack of maintenace. I have not seen many front end problems from them but a few u-joints now and again. we wont talk about fuel pumps, lol those are a day to day thing.

like i said when i need it i will go buy a 2 year old 1 ton w/ a 8.1 gas and a dump bed. see those all the time down here for 18-24k. im pushing my half ton but its all i have right now. i really want my old 99 back it was a beast and served me great for years. one thing i will point out i dont think the rear suspension of the toy or my gm would hold up very long with 10,500 on it. they are pretty weak looking springs.

its all just propaganda from the truck companies. the new durimax is still d-tuned so when ford and dodge bump their numbers up gm just puts in a new program and poof more power. we have done it for years for different reasons.
ohh and by the way the new 3/4 ton gm is a 6.2 gas engine with even more power.

I love the sounds of that. When my wife and I were shopping last year, we were shopping new and looking to go gas, but the 6.0 and the 5.4 were not going to get it done IMHO. My uncle has one of the 6.0 and it works for him, but he wishes he had more. V10's and 8.1 were not around to be looked at.... that's how we ended up with our 03 Cummins. Best thing we have done thus far. I must admit to being scared to death of the tranny though...... I am glad it does not get worked that hard, that often....
