Robert_in_NY,

In 2002 I bought a new Toyota Sequoia. I owned it for 4.5 years with zero problems, and sold it at 67,000 miles for 5,000 less than I paid for it.

I now own an 07 F J Cruiser, and the 07 Tundra made in the USA by Texans, is on it's way.

All my troubles notwithstanding, I was an avid Ford customer. The 2003 F350 was the last straw.

It will take a lot to get me back.

I agree with some of the other posters on here. 46,000.00 is more than I payed for my 06 Chevrolet 4 door 4 wheel drive , Duramax Diesel engine, 6 speed alison transmission. Heated Leather seats, 6 disk DVD player, Sattelite radio, Onstar, Tow package, Marker lights, skid plates, I get 17 miles to the gallon of diesel running 75 miles an hour empty. I dont want to be driving a 1/2 ton pickup pulling the same kind of load that I do in my 3/4 ton HD chevrolet or someone does in their 3/4 HD ford powerstroke or 3/4 ton HD dodge cummins. I bought my truck because I wanted to be able to tow something and have it under control. I think all those commercials are going to do is convince people that dont know any better they can get a 1/2 ton truck and overload the capabilities of it.

"To blindly buy a Ford or GM because it is "American" and then feel that you really did not buy the best truck does nothing for you.

It keeps me and my neighbors working. I will never by a foreign car/truck (or American car/truck not assembled in US) regardless of quality.... call me stupid... I call foreign car drivers living in America stupid.

I understand your sentiment. What do you define as foreign. All cars use parts made in other countries. A lot of the dodge products are assembled in Canada but the workers that assemble them are members of the United Auto Workers. Do you consider those cars non american. Severhal companies most notably toyota have factories in the United States are those automobiles foreign made. The world has changed in the last few decades the dividing line between foreign and US made is hard to define now. If you dont buy Non American cars do you buy non american made Televisions, Stereos, I do not believe that there is a company in the US that makes Televisions any more, I suspect the same thing for Stereos. Since this is a computer website what brand of computer do you use. To the best of my knowledge all computer motherboards are produced overseas. Most of the parts for computers are non American made.

I am a member of a National Union. I am an elected officer of my state organization. I agree that to buy non American hurts everyone but in todays economy it is almost impossible not to buy Non American.

Isn't the new Tundra just a 3/4 ton truck with 1/2 ton labels so it will trump the other 1/2 tons? From watching the commercials that seems to be what they are pushing (higher towing and braking). But I guess they have to do what they can to gain market share.

As for buying a crew cab 1/2 ton pickup and pulling a trailer test drive one first and take it to Wal-Mart or some other busy parking lot. The long wheel base makes it a lot of fun to park these trucks in the small parking spaces without pulling a trailer. Put a trailer behind it and it becomes fun navigating in tight places and around towns. They are handy but just be aware that you will have to park at the back of most parking lots if you go with a full size crew cab truck.

Robert maybe because of the cost of New York real estate they make smaller parking places. I have a 3/4 ton chevrolet 4 door 4 wheel drive and I never have to park in the back of the parking lot. I have to be a bit more careful when parking it but I can get in parking spots all the time.

The parking spots up here are designed for cars. I can fit the F-150 into them but there is only a couple inches of play room. The F-250's are just about touching the lines and the mirrors stick over. Now this is fine as long as there are no other cars in the next spots over otherwise you can't open the door. PA is the same as store owners want as many parking spots as possible.

When Chile's met with engineering here at the city of Wylie to get their parking lot approved there was a big glitch. Chile's engineered parking spaces were too small for the city of Wylie. Chile's had a snot slinging fit but put in bigger spots. The logic of the city was we have a majority of citizens with SUV's and pickups.

Robert, in 1965 a friend of my father's bought a new custom cab Ford three quarter ton with a 352, four speed, a/c, and two tone paint for twenty eight hundred dollars. It was the first three quarter I drove on the highway with my learners permit.

I just take up 2 or 3 spots when I park. Let those so-called "Honda Trucks" (what a joke) find somewhere else to park. :D

Hi Harv, up here a lot of people have trucks and SUV's also but there are more cars and small SUV's then anything else and Wal-Mart and all the other stores know this. Even Home Depot has small parking spots (not as small as some but close).

No matter the size of the spot I try to park away from other vehicles and cart returns anyway. I watch people get 15 feet away from the shopping cart return and just give the cart a shove and walk away. If the cart goes in then great but they don't always go in. Home Depot carts are the worst as they leave a nice orange dent on the side of your vehicle.

The first 3/4 ton I drove was in the late 90's (I am only 28). I went with an old timer to a farm auction in Ohio. He drove on the way down as we had a 6x5 round baler on the gooseneck. On the way back he had me drive which was fun except for we hit Cleveland during rush hour. After that all the other driving I have done was easy.

Making yourself a target. I've known folks that would let you know when you have taken up two or three parking spots. :D
