We might have been involved in a different bid. We bid on burning, mulching and herbicide.

They started out that way then wanted an hourly bid with only mulching since it was so spread out in different areas. $135 an hr won it.

Lol !!! At 135 an hr you would get rich!!!! Guys around here they are charging 75 hr. Not me mind you. I charge 150 and up depending on what machine, density etc. but there are several contractors that charge 75/hr to mulch. One even bid .04 cents per cubic yard, ya figure out how much he is mulching an acre for, absolutely unbelievable.

The folks charging 75hr for mulching don't stay in business long. I wonder if they even have liability insurance and dot # on their trucks.

Hourly bidding is kind of silly. Considering how machine and operator dependent forestry mulching productivity is, the person searching for lowest bidder per hour is destined for a lesson. Unless the job is really hard to quote due to uncertainties, we go by the acre.

I called someone close to that project and got the skinny on it. Apparently, WH fired the original contractors because they wouldn't violate DEP regs and have gone through a few contractors since. They're trying to find someone with a loose moral compass or someone unaware of the regs. Mulching against DEP regs is a short lived proposition and against what we stand for as habitat restorers.

Where are you located ROWmulcher? 75 $/hr is sad. They better be doing it for fun or have a 1987 bobcat w/ a guy in the bucket swinging a machete.

Headed off to Chatahoochee tomorrow. Anyone out that way?

I usually bid by the job. Some customers want an hourly price. Whatever they want I look at distance to job and the rest is how thick the woods are.
I've contracted with FFS all over PCB and north of there. Only way to do it is by the book or it will bite you later.
