Sorry to hear about your broken leg, Farmwithjunk. That has to be awful. 2 years ago, my first week of summer vacation (teacher), I fell out of my pickup while putting up hay and managed to hit the little latch on the side of the tailgate. Tore one of my ribs right off the sternum. I understand a ruined summer and it's a bummer! I still have to be careful picking up heavy things and it still hurts when it rains. Now if I could drive the tractor into the house, I would never have to lift heavy things again.

I guess that is one problem i don't have to worry about... My hood won't hardly make it under the door.. let alone anything like the rops..

Mine don't fit in the garage either......goes in the barn only.

Interestingly, something I just discovered about the new forum is that you can jump directly to my homepage by left clicking on my forum name. Those Percherons look bored this year.

Lots of new options to be sure.

We considered getting some draft/half draft horses.. but looked at vet and farrier costs, and decided to stick witht he regular size hay burners.

Thanks for the concern. It is "only" a hairline fracture. (Sure couldn't tell from the initial pain level. OUCH!) Ended up a merry mix-up at the ER. They (by hospital protocol) weren't supposed to send me home (with air split). Next day I got a hip-to-ankle hard cast that I have to wear for 4 weeks. Crutches so far have got me where I need to go. 2 weeks gone by as of tomorrow.

Looks like no one told my grass to quit growing for 4 weeks though.

Even though it's just a hairline crack, my understanding is that is one painful bone to break. Casts and crutches aren't any fun either. Glad to know you are halfway there toward recovery. Luckily for me, one neighbor came over a couple times a week to mow the front yard and weed the gardens. Since no one could see the backyard, my house didn't look too bad. By the time I was able to handle bouncing around on the rider mower (didn't have my tractor yet), I think I could have made hay with that grass. I was also lucky to have a friend come over to clean the horse stalls for me. So, I hope all is well for you soon!:)

Farmingwithjunk, Just thought I would have some fun changing the font color of your original post. Are you able to drive? Is it your right leg? Wait I guess you cna't drive even if it is your left leg becasue with hip to ankele cast you would ahve to put that drivers seat way back in order to fit in your leg sticking out straight in front of you. Have you made use of this immobile time? Who's cutting your grass for you?

Driving is out. Fortunately, the Mrs. is off work. (5 weeks of vacation time) I'm getting chauffered around when I need to go. Haven't missed but 1-1/2 days of works so far. I get too ride in the back seat of our 4door Dodge pick-em-up.Royal pain getting in and out. Wife says I am too. I'm not a "stationary" type. This is getting serious. I'm ALMOST ready to remove the cast myself. (Wife says I'll need TWO cast's should I try that) My son and his young'un (8) have kept the place mowed.

You guys need bigger doors like this. 12'x12' will let almost anything in.

When we put our pole barn together we used 10 foot doors which gives lots of clearance.
