I used to use a pest control service but honestly at $85 a pop and the inconvenience of getting them into and around my house-someone has to be home, we have to pull furniture away from walls and most importantly we have 2 young kids and 5 outside dogs-being careful is also important. I decided to just do it myself. What otc pest control sprays do you use? I see the stuff at Home Depot, Spectracide, Ortho, etc.. Any of these worth anything? Appreciate any input.

I use the Home Defense stuff on baseboard in house shop garage woodshed etc. It works well and lasts 6-8 months. The built-in sprayer is a leaky nuisance and puts out too much so I transfer it into spray bottles. One gallon lasts forever.

Cyper WP purchased at feed & seed store.
It wiped out a centipede infestation in house and yard.
It will almost knock down wasp on the nest. (slow kill).
It's a powder you mix what you need so last a long time.

I use a product call BifenIT (bifenthrin) at my house and it works great. It is cheap ( I think I paid a pit $35 for 3/4 gallon). For outside, I mix it at 1 oz per gallons for water. You can buy it over the Internet. It will kill everything from spiders, ants, roaches. I spray it under my crawlspace and I have no roaches or spyders. I was having a problem this summer with black ants and I sprayed good under and around the house and I haven't seen an ant in the house since. Also, it has no smell.

You can spray it in the house at a reduced concentration but I have not found the need to do this as long as I spray under and around the house. I spray under the house in the spring .

If you buy Ortho home defense at lowes you will see that it is the same chemical ( bifenthrin) but at a smaller concentration .005% vs 7.9 % when you buy it over the Internet. If you try this I think you will like it. It saves me lots of money and the inconvenience of having to meet the pest control guy.

Same chemical I've used for years. Good stuff!
I usually pick it up at the local Southern States co-op, but here's some on Amazon:

Another vote for Ortho Home Defense. Reminds me I need to do it again before the snow flies.

Thanks everyone. I visit my co-op weekly for feed and supplies, will check on the BifenIT. Years ago used to use Suspend, but can't find it locally anymore. It may have changed names.

The crap at the big box store is just that. Diluted so its' not dangerous or useful.

I have been using BifeinIT for quite some time and it works great. I mix is extra strong and put a barrier around the house. All I can say it is works. Don't waste your time with that watered down garbage with all sorts of ridiculous claims on the bottle meant for gullible homeowners.

It's potent, smells for a week after I spray, and ends up as a white milky mess coming out of the sprayer but it works awesome.
