This hurts just reading about it.

Foxnews

To paraphrase.. two guys atop unfinished roof/home one using a nail gun, one/both fell, grappled to hold each other, both ended up falling to ground, nailgun goes off & puts SIX (6) SIX SIX SIX /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif nails into the guys HEAD.

Makes me queezy just thinking about this.

He's expected to "fully recover" (after rehab).

That morning, he was probably watching his child sleeping in crib as he walked out, having no idea his life was about to drastically change. You just never know.

Everyone hug their loved ones today?

When I saw that X-ray, all I could think of, was the scene in Lethal Weapon, where Danny Glovers charachter is fighting a "bad guy", and Glover offs him, using a loaded nail gun.

I wonder how long before we hear about a law suit from this ?

Or a major design change to nail guns ?
/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif It sure is a very rough wake up call any way you look at it ...

Yep... just what we need.. more consumer protection laws.

While it was a terrible acident.. I'll bet close inspection of that nail gun shows that the operator has the safety head tied back with a piece of bailing wire.. letting it fire a nail without being in contact with a hard surface.. like nearly all nailguns are, and have been for the last few years.

After the lawyers are done with it.. you will probably have to set the nail gun in place.. and then walk behind a lexan blast shield, and then hit the remote controll switch for the nailgun to fire... then pull a safety key disconnecting power or air to the gun, then go out and reposition the scaffolding holding the gun in preperation for the next nail.. then start all over again behind the lexan...

Amen Soundguy, the first thing I thought after hearing the story was how the gun could shoot six nails without depressing the safety head. That would have to be one fast nailer (worker) to get that many shots in what would seem to me to be just a few seconds. Of course I knew what state the safety was in and you're probably right about the next generation nailgun. I'm afraid the lexan blast shield may not be enough, we'll need at least 1/2 mile clearance between operator and work surface.

Since everyone knows the purpose of a nail gun is to kill boards, we must make all efforts to outlaw these tools which can mow down innocent boards and board children (especially the semi-auto ones).

According to the latest study by "Nailguns Inc." the premier anti-nailgun organization, these are now the "weapon of choice" by gang members out to do a "nail by". /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Soundguy,

You took my thoughts right out of my mouth, as a former carpenter by trade I used a lot of nailguns and worked around numerous people who were stupid enough to disengage the safetyhead on a nailgun. Anyone I supervised was told that tampering with safety features on tools of any type would be grounds for immediate dismissal but I was always uncomfortable on a jobsite where I didn't supervise the other crews. Used to be it was permitted to take your time and do careful work but today it's hurry, hurry, hurry and on to the next project..... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
