Peter,

I think I've met you at one of the SSA shindigs?!? That top photo just missed Mindigo hill. It is located just a little to the right of the area in which the picture was taken. We see Mindigo almost exactly "due west" from our front yard. Often see Brama bulls on it.

Did you know that Mindigo is an extinct volcano? Hasn't erupted for a couple million years or so...

Re: Our side yard

Great job Scruffy! If it's any consolation, we _do_ have a rocking chair in the front room. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

What kind of camera did you end up with?????

We ended up getting a Kodak DC4800 (3.1 M-pixel, 3X optical zoom, 2X digital zoom). Found it on the internet for $470, plus I got a $100 rebate. The rebate was good 'till July 14. I suspect that this camera is being "phased out". Not a problem for me, I like cheap. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Re: Your ~back~ yard

Peter,

Fog was up a bit higher today, but Mindigo hill is still visible in this shot. I took it about 7AM. Guess you're underneath that white stuff (at least for an hour or two)...

This picture is looking almost exactly due west (a little to the right of the first pic in this thread). If you look real carefully in the extreme left side of the picture, you can see a tiny portion of Alpine road (just above the fog line). The darkish area on the hillside this side of Mindigo is the old Ortega ranch. Paul Ortega passed away earlier this year, after living there for about 78 years (or so).

Oh so your one of those transplants we talk about here in Northern California. Actually, up here nobody calls it Northern California, but I like to distinguish between it and the fluff (Southern Cal.) Been up here all my life. Love taking trips over to the the bay area when I can pick the time. Have much family in the Bay area. When I was young kid back in the 60's, we made 2 week vacations at Stinson Beach. Rat...

According to my wife, if you've lived in California for 30 years or more, you are entitled to call yourself a "native". This is my 30th anniversary year, so as of this fall, I will start calling myself native.

BTW - We don't call it Northern California, we call it North California

We do?

Lived my whole 53 years here in the East Bay, and I didn't know that. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

BTW -- my SCUBA diving club, out of El Cerrito, was considered part of the CenCal (Central California) diving council. Guess it all depends on how many pieces you wanna slice us into. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Only transplants call it North California, your not there yet GlueGuy, wait awhile, natives don't call it anything except where it is that they are, me I'm from Carmichael and now live in Newcastle, if you don't know where they are you get a map. I'll tell folks on this board Northern California because with a state as long as California, we usually get split into 2 maps, Northern and Southern and frankly because I don't want to be identified as from the all fluff Southern California, Rat...

P.S. nice pictures, my cousin could be your neighbor, flys for American Airlines. Course hes a transplant from Philadelphia and should be easy to recognize as he says things like "North Califronia"

Harv, I've done some diving myself, qualified over at Cannery Row in Monterey. By the way, folks up in Redding call their part of the state "the North state", anything below the town of Cottonwood they consider to be part of some other state, Rat...

P.S. ever go golfing? Theirs a great course over in your land in the foothills by Ione, Castle Oaks, right by the prison, I play golf a couple of times a year, but always as more of a social event.
