Has anyone tried to mount one of those pull behind mowers like you would use on a 4 wheeler or pull behind another mower on to the front of a garden tractor. I would like to try it . If so how did it work out and do you have pictures of it . Thanks Flinter

Flinter, I have thought about mounting a pull behind mower up front. It would be easier to watch with it up front. Plus I could push it in under low hanging tree limbs and shrubs. A mid-mount mower does not have that last feature.

Some of the concerns I have about giving this a try are. Where are all those rocks and sticks I hit with the mower going to go? That has to be thought about with my yard. Plus my little B5100 does not have power steering. My thinking is it would that a lot to be able to turn the tractor and the mower with it up front.

It did not take me long to talk myself out if ever giving your idea a try. If I had the mower I do have the resources to give it a try. But I never will, but that is just me.

I would be very interested in the results if you give this a try. Please keep me posted if you try it.

Flinter, I've thought much about this too. I know that Iseki in Japan and Europe have front mount mower attachments for their compact tractors...it's shown on their web site. I'm pretty sure they're driven off the front PTO. It looks like it would be doable with a little thought toward bracing, pivoting and drive line setup.

I have thought about this too. I am buying a Kubota L3130 with the quick attach option on the FEL. I starting to watch for a used self powered trali mower with 4 wheels that I can mount to a quick attach adapter. With the FEL in float, it should do as I want it to do.

Never tried that but what I did was buy a 22hp Sears mower with a 60" deck and a trail mower with a 60" deck. I pull the trail mower offset and cut 10' for every pass. Cut my mowing time down considerably.

I mowed this weekend and looked at my trail mower with an eye toward your idea. The only problem I see would be the wheels. The front wheels swivel but the rear wheels are fixed. You would have to modify the rear so that all four wheels swiveled to mount it on front of the tractor. Or....you would have to remove the rear wheels and mount it at a fixed height to the front of the tractor.

You're less likely to be hitting rocks with a front mount mower than a mid mount or rear mount. What generally gets rocks out of their positions are the tractor wheels. With the mower in front, the wheels will be behind.

This is my experience with my Gravely with the bush hog out front. I hit very few rocks. Most trouble I have is tree/shrub stubs hanging up on the rear guard of the bush hog and distorting it or stopping the tractor (causing wheel spin).

The Gravely bush hog is a mulcher. Any discharge of debris is out front. That is low high spot in the housing surround.

Every time I get stuck mowing or brush hogging I obsess over a better way to mow. Those trailing mowers are very attractive, and not that expensive compared to riding mowers. 2 of those pulled behind a stout ATV could do some real damage to shorter grass fields!

One of my tractors has a front mount mower and it is a great thing! I've cut about 90 minutes off my mowing each week. The front wheels on my front mount mower swivel, the rear wheels are fixed, the entire mower is fixed to the front frame and driven by a belt. I think the hardest part of rigging one of these things up would be making sure the deck can vertically float up and down with the bumps.

By the way, I tend to agree about the issue of hitting rocks and how the mid-mount mowers tend to hit a lot more than my front mount. I think the tractor tires may displace the rocks and cause the mid-mount mower to hit them? What I am sure of is that the front deck makes it much easier to see, much easier to mow under trees, much easier to mow along landscaping, and it does not hit as many rocks or scalp the ground or cut uneven on rough ground as compared to a mid-mount mower on a lawn tractor.

Front mount, hydraulic drive mowers are available for skid steers. With hydrualics run up front, you could do that with the setup you are getting. Bobcat, ASVi, and the aftermarket have them.
