Overpowered, overpriced new cars

/ Overpowered, overpriced new cars #31
Hot cars get people in the dealer's show room. Men (me included) might lust after that Mustang, but it's probable we'll drive out with a family car, van or SUV.
Well, in my case, I drove out with a used F-150 Crew Cab.

BTW, althought I think the new Mustangs are really neat, they suck to enter and egress and aren't particularly comfortable (I had rented one on a business trip last year).
Anyway, even though their style is very appealing, they don't appeal to me.
Now, several years back, Ford brought out a very limited street production version of the Ford GT-40 (see the attached picture). That REALLY got my juices flowing!!! Of course, I doubt I could even get in it.

When we bought our last new car the salesman asked if we wanted to take a look at the engine under the hood. I said, Why?

Agree 100%, but hopefully you kicked the tires a few times so he didn't think you had been born in a barn...

That is why I've signed legal papers saying if I buy a car manufactured after 2000 I want to be killed by a shot to the head.

How much are you willing to pay the shooter? And, would you include air fare?

When I was 20, I was able to afford a '70 Mach One with the 351 4V Cleveland, and I had traded my cheapo '67 coupe in on that new one. Once I realized how much it cost to run the new car (payments, insurance, gas, tires, citations etc.) I wished I had kept my older car a few more years. That's what happens when you are young and stupid.

BTW, Roy, how many of the oglers looking at that fancy $60,000 new hot rod are going to be thinking:

"Oh boy, this is JUST what I need to impress the hot Hooters chicks...."

Nah...I don't need a low slung car...anyway, the hat wouldn't fit in the car. That's why I drive a crew cab pickup...

Anyway, when those girls see me (with the hat),they think one of two things (or both):
"Wow, with a Bull Hat like that, he must really be out to stud"
or
"Is that Chuck Norris with that cool hat?"

I did have one girl in Hooters (nice hooters, poor eyesight) ask me:
"Nice hat!!! Are you Justin Beiber?"

You hit that one right on the head, todays cars ARE reliable and give good gas mileage for the most part, but many are so complicated it is impossible to work on them. Remember when an interior rear view mirror was a $5 part, manual dimming was the only upgrade? Now they have compass, clock, thermometer, auto-dimming, Onstar, etc. built in. What woud it cost to repair or replace that fancy mirror?
...

If i remember right, pretty close to $500.

Please tell us where you plan to buy said loaded 3/4 ton truck and have enough left of the 60k to buy the new aluminum trailer much less a new Deere. ;)

On a car lot from a trade in by someone who realized he couldn't meet the payments on his new toy?

I have had a few "new" cars in my life. Most recent was a Ford 500 (2005). Reason for purchas? Both of us are in our 70s and hated the "crawl down into the car entries" Only thing I found was the 500 which is almost 'just sit down' entry height. It was that or the idiot SUV or gas hog minivans.

As with most mid/large cars when people ask "how do you like it" the answer is "it's an an old fogey car, reliable, nice size and absolutely nothing exciting about it".

I don't think the new Corvettes or Mustangs are overpriced at all comparing stats to the really high dollar performance cars. We all seem to forget there are lots of people with oodles of disposable income even though many struggle to make a living.

Kinda nice for me cause a big part of how I make a living are making things for people with plenty of cash to blow.:)
