At the time nobody made much of it. The jet stream made a big loop up into BC and Alberta. It obvious that's where all our winter weather went. I didn't have to plow the driveway - even once - last winter. We would stand on the porch and look at two inches of slush.

From:

Vancouver set its all-time heat record on Sunday.

The National Weather Service recorded 112 degrees just after 4 p.m. at Pearson Field. That broke the record of 108 degrees that was set on July 29, 2009 and matched on Saturday.
...
Portland International Airport also reported 112 degrees, the all-time hottest temperature for the city, where records date to 1874.

I was up at one of my properties today. This is one is on a portion of land that juts into the Strait of Juan De Fuca and gets A LOT of marine air flow off of the Pacific Ocean (read cool air). It never has approached this temperature before. 90 at the best until today.

My Vantage Pro 2 registered an outside temperature of 102F at 4PM this afternoon. Thank God it's continuously dropping since that time. It's 96F at 8PM. It will drop fast once the sun goes down.

108 at my place today, and the other relevant figure is the dew point was 35 degrees this morning. It's so dry the ground crunches. Fire danger has moved to high. They say it was 115 about 20 miles north of me.

It cooled down to 90 by 8:30. Projected low tonight is 75. There's a high cirrus layer that will hold the heat in.

The sellers of a house I purchased years ago left a roll of reclaimed utility power line in the shop. They told me I could have it. They said it was copper or brass. It looked like copper or brass, and copper was at an all time high at the time. It was really heavy (I think that is why they left it). I took it salvage yard where they informed me it was copper plated steel line. They stuck a magnet to it to prove it to me. I got next to nothing for it.

I hear Alaska is nice this time of year!
I went to Pasco today to help my son move. 114 degrees there! I see that it is going to be 86 degrees in Fairbanks by Friday with high level of Mosquitos. I'm not sure which one I would prefer less.

Near 5AM. 72F outside. Hoping to get just a few degrees cooler inside before I shut down the fans.

Brother - that must have been a world of JOY - Cougsfan - Pasco. Right in the center of the frying pan. Rude awakening from your trip on the Oregon coast.

This will be the acid test for the AC in the new house.
