I'm shopping for pallet forks. I have a 1300# generator that has pallet slots in the skid for moving it around. I also plan on stacking firewood on pallets this year too. My FEL is rated to lift a little over 1800#. Is it worth spending the extra money on a heavy duty set or will a standard duty 2000# rated set of forks be fine? I figure 42" is plenty long enough for my needs.

Here are the two I'm looking at right now

If you're not worried about the extra weight and money I'd go a little bigger as if you want to resell them they probably have a little larger market. Ps- I have the compact ones and with double the lift capacity than me I think I'd go a little bigger than the compact ones.

Nice. Thank you.

For the commercial address...does there have to be a way to off-load the forks there or can it be just any commercial address? Could I get them delivered to the fire station and take them home with me after work?

I'm not sure, I shipped to my company but we have forklifts and a loading dock. I would suggest calling their customer service department and discussing it with them.

You mentioned wanting to store firewood on pallets. I'm doing that and am very happy with the convenience. In fact, I store just about everything in my barn on pallets as well.

They are going to need a way to get them off of a standard 60 inch trailer. So either a loading dock and a pallet jack or a forklift or tractor with pallet forks. A feedstore, farm and ranch store, or anything that can get them unloaded and has room to park the semi.

Can't do that at the firehouse. Even if we had a lift there, no one would be around long enough to unload them. It's the busiest firehouse in the county and I'm on the busiest unit in the firehouse. I've got a friend in MD who has a commercial address and fork lifts. I had an industrial engine delivered there before. I've got a key to the place so I could go pick them up after hours if I needed to.

The other option for free shipping is shipping to a freight terminal then picking it up there. You would need to contact palletforks.com to find the closest freight terminal to you. everythingattachments.com has a similar freight policy.

I bought the construction attachments 48". They used to be rated to 3000, but now they're 4000. I figured that way if I abuse them they won't break. I'm very happy with them. If rather have american made myself, otherwise some of the cheaper ones online would have been my choice. I got a great deal on mine from a local dealer. I'd shop locally before buying online.

Check with Ray at Woodstock Equipment. That is were mine came from. I think they are 4500lb capacity. He probably has a few brands to choose from.

WILDKAT ATTACHMENTS - Forks

The set at the top right are the ones I have and my loader is just a bit weaker than yours. I have not been disappointed, but with a lighter set I probably would have junked them already. Each fork is rated for 3700# so they are way over built for my needs but have plenty of resale options that way. I wanted 42 inch forks but my dealer only carries the 48. Now let me tell you why you want the 48 inch forks.

In most cases I can see the tip of my forks from the seated position. But depending on angle and steepness of ground every now and then I have to stand and keep my knee in the seat to bypass the safety switch with my other foot on the HST pedal to see what I am doing. With the shorter forks this would happen more often. I also dont think it would be possible with a gear machine.

We went with a 48" generic brand recommended by my dealer that handles 3500 pounds, we use the on our 5740 and 8540. My brother thought he would go with 42" ones for his CK27, but after using mine got the 48" but a lighter duty. We really appreciate the extra reach. Now I can't say 42" won't work, just that 48" works well for us.

I bought the 48" from pallet forks.com they delivered them to my address for free noncommercial address. It's only 3 pieces. Two forks and the back plate. Unstrap the pallet and you can Handel each price by hand into back of pickup.

I have the Construction Attachments as well They are a standard frame with the heavy lift forks 5500 lb rating they are built very well. I would probably go for the heavier model if you can stand the weight less chance you will bend a tip while you are doing something other than lifting pallets. I managed to bend the tip of mine when i got it pinned under a dumpster and tried to roll back it was in a 2 point bend which acted like a lever arm and provided probably north of 7000 lbs of force
