I have been able to post pictures in the various photo sections onthis great forum, but have had only limited success attaching a photo on a thread. I have read, and been informed, by some helpful members that the file can be no larger than 100kb. With that said Im not sure what my problem is, because I have checked the file size in the photo section and it appears to be under the limit.

So here is a test, and I definitely appreciate the help.

Oh yes, one other thing. When I go to attach the picture, I click on the browse button but that brings up my photos on my hard drive. That didnt seem to be right, so I went to the photo section and called up the picture I want to attach and right clicked, clicked properties, right clicked the url and then clicked select all then done. Then copied that address in the attach file box. Am I missing something? http://www.tractorbynet.com/photos/data/563/18786100_0326-med.JPG

When you ATTACH a picture, it must be a file from your hard drive -- not from a URL. If you have it stored elsewhere on the web, then put a link into your post (as you did) to the picture -- only give it a friendly name rather than the URL.

Mornin Dave,
OK lets try this. What I am missing, or at least think Im missing, is when I click on the browse button and I get photos on my hard drive how they are making it as an attachment on the thread. On other forums that I have been on, you can only post a picture if you have a link to photos you ahve posted on that site. Just the same Dave, I appreciate your efforts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK Dave,
Were really making some progress here. Last question. If you do provide a link to a picture in the text portion of your post, how do you change that link to a friendly name?

Im learning, unfortunately a little slow at times. What do you expect from a toolmaker/ modelmaker /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Scotty, when you ATTACH a photo into a thead, you actually are uploading it from your computer to the TBN server. After you write your message, you need to make sure the option box that says "I want to preview my post and/or attach a file" is marked with a check mark. Then click the box Continue. On the next screen you will find an empty box with a button marked BROWSE next to it. Click the browse button and locate your photo on your hard drive. Click Select, or Open (different browsers may have a different wording) and that should fill the blank line with your file location. Follow the commands and you should have no problems uploading attachments.

<font color="blue"> ( If you do provide a link to a picture in the text portion of your post, how do you change that link to a friendly name? ) </font>

You use the Instant Markup tags (replace the curly brackets {} with square brackets [] ):

{url=PUT URL HERE}Friendly Text{/url}

Exactly. You don't even need to type the brackets and such though. When you click on the Instant Markup for "URL" you'll get two dialog boxes. In the first, put your entire URL and click OK. The second box will pop up and ask for the name. Tpe the friendly text and hit OK. You'll get the long string with all the correct brackets and slashes automatically /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
