Something different today. I’m attending a high school coaches conference in Baton Rouge.

Will a bunch of schools be there? Do you advertise for work, or is it so specialized that they all know who you are already?

This is one of my most successful ways of getting new business. There are probably 500+ people here representing many schools across the state. If I get 1 job from this event, it will be worth my time and investment.

Got started aerating and topdressing all the athletic fields at LSU @ Alexandria today. Got rained out around 1:00. And the forecast is for 90% for the next 2 days.
This job is 16 loads of sand, which is about 450 tons.

With all the rain lately, we haven’t been able to do much field work. So today I drove 165 miles to one of our job sites just to see what it looks like.

This field was scheduled to be planted a week ago, but has had almost 9” of rain over the past 5 days, including 2.73” yesterday. In the first pic, you can see how high the water got on the fence. But it did drain off quickly.

I feel your pain I have been wanting to cut hay for three weeks and can't get a 3 day window to do it, as a matter of fact it's raining here right now.

Stopped to look at this job we did a little over a week ago.
These soccer fields had big rows in them. Sort of like you would have in a garden for watermelon rows.
The field manager doesn’t know if they were like this when they were built, or if the rows developed over time.
We brought in about 675 tons of sand (21 loads) and hauled it onto the fields with our dump wagons, then smoothed it with my 8’ blade. I made 2 passes at 45* angles then a third pass just to finish it off.
I think we made a huge improvement to the fields, and in a few weeks you won’t be able to see the sand.
This was done after we aerated, and it was on 4 soccer fields.

What kind of sand do you use and source? Concrete mix?

For this job, the City of Alexandria supplied the sand. It's their soccer fields. When I'm doing a job like this, spreading it with my blade, I will use either 'river sand' or 'concrete sand'. I don't know the difference of those 2, but they will have a little bit of some small pebbles in it.

When I spread with my spin spreader, I use 'mason sand'. It will be screened better to remove any small pebbles or rocks or other debris. I use this cleaner sand, because any rocks could damage the spinners on my spreader.

Most of the sand I get is from Arcosa Aggregates
They have several sand pits across the south. I'm pretty sure I'm their biggest customer for mason sand in Louisiana. I've purchased about 2000 tons from them so far this year.

so question, Back home we have a track and field and the center of the track is a soccer field (see actual field in picture below), this year a general contractor dug in and removed the top soil layer of the whole field and replaced it with black dirt (peat dirt) I am sure they will sod after but still it doesn't make sense to me why do such thing, the materiel was top soil/sandy clay. There sure was a few holes and what not but they could've been patch them why removed the top soil what is your guess ??
