Well, regardless of the gains in power, (don't know what the increase in Pto power is, but that is the only place it is useful anyway) or the reclining seat ( I want a picture of someone mowing while reclining in that seat) you just have to love the "extra power" decal..

I'm not disputing that it has more displacement than the BX2350. All I'm saying is that in the BX2660 application of this engine, the increase in HP above the B2320 is a result of the increased RPM.

BX2350 with D902: 23 HP gross at 3200 RPM
BX2660 with D1005: 26 HP gross at 3200 RPM
B2320 with D1005: 23 HP gross at 2800 RPM

I don't think so. Neil says it is the same block with greater displacement. The only way to do that, it seems, is to overbore the cylinders, or more likely, increase the stroke, possibly both. If the greater displacement comes by lengthening the stroke, the RPMs would more likely decrease than increase. My guess is that the extra hp is most likely coming via increased stroke rather than increased rpm. If the exact same block were used with no displacement difference, increased hp via increased RPM would decrease torque, and this engine has greater torque.

Is it just me or have I noticed a trend lately with these threads. Seems to be a lot of arguing lately. Anyhow, enough with how it got the horsepower. How about if it can accomodate a BH. Also what other advantages does this tractor have. When is it available for sale? What is the price?

Finally got membership upgraded and can make post. Been waiting a couple of days.

Been doing a little bit of research as information on the BX2660 is limited at best. most of the information has come through Kubota Canada as the US website barely acknowledges it in the new products. This is what I found:

The BX2350 is D902 block, 54.8ci w/ 2.8 bore and 2.9" stroke rated RPM 3200 23hp PTO-17.7hp

The BX2660 is D1005 block, 61.1ci w/? bore and ? stroke rated RPM-3200 25.5hp PTO-19.5hp

The B2320 is D1005 block, 61.1 ci w/ 3.0" bore and 2.9" stroke rated RPM-2800 23hp PTO-17.2hp

Not sure on bore and stroke on BX2660 but the Cubic inch is the same. Its a diesel and power band could also be changed by injection and RPM's.

Either way I am to be getting one of these in the next few days here in Michigan. I do have a chipper that will appreciate the extra PTO power. Other than that I was real satisfied with the BX2230 that I sold to my friend.

I also like the return to metal fenders and hood over the BX2350. The newer seat also looks like a plus.

Any more pictures or has somebuddy gotten a copy of the brochure and could scan and post?

One of my local dealers has had these in stock since the middle of April. I'll try to get some pictures of the ones he has assembled if they aren't sold yet.

That would be very cool & appreciated.
Thanks, Tim

FYI - the engine series number is based on the displacement of the engine. If they overbored the D902 block then it probably would have a new model number.

D902 - 0.898 L
D1005 - 1.001 L

If the D1005 and D902 are cast from the same mold, then you are correct. Either way, the engine in the BX2660 is not a D902, overbored or otherwise.

I see it as a discussion, not an argument.

Respectfully, that is the job of the moderators. If the moderators believe there has been enough discussion of where the hp comes from, they will let us know. If you do not want to participate in the discussion, that is completely fine. But please, do not say to me and others that we are arguing and that the limit has been reached in our discussion of horsepower.

I agree with you. That is information I will look forward to learning.

It is helpful to get some stats. The following post by Neil Messick (a Kubota Dealer) is what I have been going by. This is from a previous thread.

It is a physicaly bigger engine thats producing that extra power. Its not just running at higher rpm's, so it should have more troque than the BX2350.

So it appears that higher rpm ups the hp, but the loss in torque is more than offset by a wider bore than the engine in the 2350.
