That being said, this thread and its purpose, both fortunately and unfortunately, has come to an end as far as it's creator is concerned. I believe it was, in the end, my mistake. There's a reason not to talk Politics, Religion or Tractor Manufacturers and this thread perfectly explains why! Big oops on my part.

I think that you better add anything that concerns guns to that list.

I guess this is kinda like being at a cocktail party or a BBQ. After a while, ya know who can provide stimulating conversation and ya know who to stay away from. Stimulating conversation is important to me. Clearly, some here have never experienced this that often if at all OR their idea of stimulating conversation is name calling and/or showing off their seriously compromised IQs. )

I don't know if this is directed to me or not, but I feel it is important to reply anyway. I don't have a problem with stimulating conversation, but if you don't want to hear what I have to say, don't invite me into your conversation. I find it offensive as much as you do when name calling starts and conversation ends.

Summarily, Richard, I hope you can find some restitution and peace over your loss and the challenges it presented to you. It's your life, do what you see fit as noone else can live it for you. I will heed the same advice. It sounds like you're well on your way to accomplishing both, at least to the extent I can surmise from your offerings here on TBN.

On to bigger and better things! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't believe that there are bigger or better things than our families, pets, and our ability to live peaceful lives....

Junk ... I purposely refrained from naming any names. Those who might happen to fall into the sterotypes I presented, predictably made themselves known yet again with their responses. I'll let sleeping dogs lie (no pun).

Yes of course, Guns, are finding their way on that list. That's interesting in and of itself if you ask me!

And last I heard, this board does not require invitations to comment. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Over and out!

( I do not disagree because this was not a thread about dogs, unless the whole thing was a ruse to continue a previous post. The original post on this strand said nothing about dead dogs. The only thing I was really responding to was weather or not it was illegal to shoot a dog and your analogy to destroying anothers property. There simply is no universal way to say it never is right or it is always wrong to shoot a wild or stray dog. Hopefully we will all be responsible adults and conduct our affairs as such. Dave )

Dave.... It befuddles me to understand how you can change the meaning what I wrote into something that I didn't write. I never made mention of wild dogs. Those were your words that were brought into the discussion. No one before you mentioned wild dogs. You used "wild dogs" to justify your shooting dogs! I made no analogy to destroying another's property! I will take credit for what I write, but please don't try to change the meaning of my words and add to them!
You have said ( "There is nothing inhumane about putting a wild suffering animal down.") I will agree with this, but no one mentioned "a wild suffering animal" being shot as inhumane prior to your posting this statement. You further wrote ( "Is the auto driver guilty of animal cruelty because another let his animals run wild ? Not likely.") The is a far cry from deliberately shooting a "well fed dog with a collar" to an accidental hitting of an animal. Auto drives usually don't aim their cars at animals and try to kill them. If they do, they will be prosecuted, if and when they are caught.

"By your shooting these dogs your are guilty of the crime of animal cruelty! You have a duty to report the dogs and allow the authorities to deal with the problem, but you don't have a right to shoot the dogs, no matter what they were doing "

This is what I was responding to. I was simply stating that it is not always a crime to shoot a dog. There are times when a individual does have a right, even a responsability to shoot a dog. Wild dogs are my example. Dave

Doug,

I finally read through the thread. Richard beat me to what I
would do which is to let the POlice handle the people in the
blind. Touching the blind opens up big cans of worms for YOU.

Leaving the blind alone and as bait opens lots of oppotrunities
for you to get the people causing a problem. Find out what
the law says. If you are unsure of what the law says, call up
the DA and get his two cents.

It might not be necessary to catch the people in the blind
in the act of shooting but mearly the act of hunting. If they
have a weapon and are in the blind the DA may feel the law
will allow him to charge them.

If this is true, theen the blind makes it realy easy to catch the
people causing the problem. Even if they have to be caught in
the act, the blind makes it easier to catch them...

Later,
Dan

In saying that I shot those 2 dogs I was trying to make a point about some dog owners. Some people think that if they feed there dogs that is all they have to do and that shows how much they love them. And then they let them roam all over the country because they feel that dogs should be alowed to run.
The facts of my shooting those dogs were many and I didn't state them because I felt I was getting my point accross with out going into detail. The facts are as follows:
The two dogs had been observed several times running deer.
The county dog warden had tryed to find out who owned the dogs. And I had driven around several miles trying to find the owners.
The two dogs had been shot at by the beef farmer next door for chaseing his stears, but had missed.
The deputy had told us if we saw them to shot them as they were a hasard to our livestock.
The day I shot them I thought that a kid was in trouble as I could hear him screaming and the dogs barking so I ran a 1/4 mile back in the field and came up on them and they had a fawn down. I tried to intervine and they treatened me so I ran back to the house and got my rifle and dispached them.
If you could hear that fawn scream you would relize how vicious those NICE PETS WERE.

The dogs we're not to blame the owners were but because of there irresponsibity the dogs had to be put down.
Out here in the country so many people thing that if they want to get rid of there PET they are doing them a favour by taking them out into the country and droping them of so they have room to run. Or else they by a lot and just let them run all over the place.
The ad that really gets my goat is this;
FREE DOG< NEEDS ROOM TO RUN<NOT GOOD WITH CHILDREN.
I have owned MANY dogs and have NEVER let them run free with out being with them. I own 80 acres and live by a state highway and my dogs are only let out if I am with them or in the 2 acres that I have a radio fence.
I will get off my soap opera now and hope that I haven't teed of to many people. That isn't my intention. sometimes I don't get my ideas over in my writing.

I would think any dog that would run a horse would immediately be put down. No excuses. Any dog seen running a deer on my property is history. None of my neighbors would ever let their dogs run wild. Dave

Leaddog, Thank you for the explanation, it certainly shows a more complete picture & makes me understand your actions. I might have done the same, if I were in that situation.
Now it is my turn to say, I hope I didn't offend & if I do, certainly call me on it.
