Again, thanks for all who have expressed sypmathies. Posting here has been somewhat therepeutic for me, not to mentioned wearing out my fingers typing.

I'm not going to post any more of their pics here, but might post updates on my "rock garden" project from time to time if/as it developes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Johnny Appleseed" ain't got NOTHING on what I intend to plant around here (though in rocks) given permission to do so.

I would think the TVA would have like a 1000' ft buffer zone where the TVA property borders private residental property that hunters etc...would not be allowed in.But it probably would not keep the trouble makers away, since they have no regard or respect for anyone but themselves(I guess they probably do not respect themselves or they would not stoop that low, must be a low self esteem problem ?)

I'd bet it's more like they have "little mans syndrome", and I do NOT mean height... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I have read this post from the beginning, and have not known the words to write.

As I played with Allison and A.J. (Our Golden Retrievers) today, I had tear in my eyes. We walked around the property, me showing them there boundaries. They have always stayed in the yard very well.

I am so saddened by this story, sorry, I can't say anymore.

Richard,

Sorry for your loss.

I cannot express what I would want to do to these low life [CENSORED]'s if I had them in my sights.

There is no need in this world for people of this caliber.

I am a gun person. I am not a hunter (quit after my service days) but I have no problem with hunting or hunters so long as they play by the rules.

But these dudes, these are not hunters, they are idiots and should not be allowed to own a firearm or allowed to re-produce.

Ok, now on to getting even. Trail cams, claymore's (sp), deep pits inviting a drive through, roofing nails, Bouncing Betty's and such come to mind.

You and Wifey hang in there Pal. Good will prevail.

Richard

This post stuck a particular nerve in me. My wife and I went up to our land during hunting season to do work. We brought our dog Wally, who is big and has the coloration of a deer. My wife made a blaze orange vest for the dog to wear. We could hear the rifle shots in the mountains around us. Wally loves to run, but we would not let him out of our sight. We feared for his safety the whole time we were there.
Dogs are, in my opinion, the most domesticated of animals. Because of this, in my opinion, humans have the responsibilty to care for them. Dogs devote themselves unquestionably to their owners, like a child to their parent. Most dog owners feel a responsibility for what happens to their dog. It is an awful feeling when something happens to our dogs.
It is perhaps the Native American blood in me, but I feel that hunters should respect their prey. Many do. Some don't.
Take this in the spirit it is given. As one who sees inhumanity on a daily basis, do not let them take your humanity. Keep your perspective.

Man, I'm sorry about your loss. Sounds like some poor excuse of a hunter couldn't find a deer so he blamed it on your dogs. Good luck in the war.

On Edit: If you are going to censor my post at least don't make it sound like I feel sorry for the ( censored, by me) idiot that did the shooting!!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Richard.

I feel deeply for you and your family. Pets for many of us are members of our families and thier lives are as dear to us as our own. I lost my first pet cat to some sick [censored] who probably took pleasure in killing animals. I really didn't understand at the time since was I only 8. Even today, some 30+ years later, it is hard to understand what drives people to commit such acts. I really hope people like this get what is their due.

As far as keeping people out of where they are not supposed to be, it does take time. When I bought my current property, I soon found out my new neighbor & I owned the local teen party spot. Once a month I would have pick-up beer bottles, garbage & condoms. I put up signs, my neighbor put up a gate, but it took many late night in person visits from me to convince the kids that the place was off limits. I didn't call the police, since IMHO - I'm more scary: think Deliverence. It takes time, but you should be able to get the message out that the area is off limits to their vehicles. I wish you the best.

Richard, I am indeed sorry for your loss. My take is a bit different from others. While reading this strand I bounce from empathy to anger against you. In point of fact I feel you owe many of us that hunt legally and would never do such a thing an apology. Your anger does not justify grouping people in such a discriminatory way. You say this is not against hunters or is not political. Because of your loss I am certainly willing to accept that but I will leave you these thoughts. Any person who shoots any animal from any motorized vehicle unlawfully is not a hunter, they are poachers. I do not know if the dogs were on your property. I can say over the years I have known many people who let their animals out to run free off their own land. As owners of these trusting souls it is our responsibility to assure that they do not run freely or wild on state land or others property. While I am again, Always sorry for their loss I am often left wondering what they expected to happen eventualy. There have always been people in the world of low moral character. Our prisons are full of theese types. I would kindly ask that you stop refering to this low life scum as hunters. When you refer to theese individuals this way you yourself become as offensive to me as the person who shot your dog is to you. Best wishes catching the vermin. Dave

In his early posts Richard was very clear that he did not blame hunters and in facct defined who he was mad at and why. I do not think that he has in anyway slighted or complained about hunters in general.

Acts like this that cannot be shown to be caued by a very small minority are why our public lands use is in jepordy. We as hunters and users of public lands have the responcibility to police the use of and infact make sure that we use these lands properly or we may lose the right to do so.
