Piranha tooth bar!!!

Strange with all this talk, I have yet to see any video's of this bar in action?

You could bring your camera to western Arkansas and get some footage while I run the tractor. On second thought wait until it is less than 100 degrees out, prefer about 50F.

Here's some pics of the Piranha toothbar mounted on the 54" bucket on my LA504 loader - note that the bucket is acutally the SSQA bucket from the LA534 loader that comes on the new Bxx50 tractors. I converted over to the SSQA.

The bucket is looking dirty because I got a brief respite in the rain we've been having around here - got the toothbar installed , and just had to try it out. I've got a pile of graded base (rock dust and 3/4" crushed stone mix) sitting in my driveway - so I cleaned up that pile a little. I have to say I think the bar definitely helps. I was able to push the bucket right into the pile and grab a full bucketload - whereas with the straight bucket edge I was always having to knock the pile down some to loosen it up and then fool around with the bucket a little to get a full load. I also noticed that this bar makes it very easy to take a "cut" into the pile while hugging the ground level - and it leaves a nice clean surface behind. I had a standard toothbar on my old BX23 and I could never get a cut that clean with that.

I have a piranha tooth bar and quite frankly, I am not as impressed as I hoped I would be. I got it to help clear out heavy brush and undergrowth and it did OK I guess, but the way the teeth are raked back a lot of the stuff would slip off....I had a Johnny bucket on my GR with a tooth bar and the teeth were more squared off and it did a better job of holding the vines and what not on the bucket (even though the GR didn't have enough power to do anything with it).

I am currently using it to help move some river rock (1 - 3 inches).....at least that is what it's suppose to be, but there is a lot of 5 inch pieces in there. Anyway, it doesn't seem to cut through that stuff too much, but in fairness I am not sure what would mounted on the front of a BX. It's gets the job done, but it is somewhat of a struggle. I am sure if nothing else it is protecting the front edge of the bucket.

I went b back and forth between this and the RR and if I had it to do again I would probably still get the piranha bar because I cannot push straight into a pile of anything with the RR due to it's design. It works great in loose dirt and/or sand....but most anything would. Just my. 02 cents. : )

Hi Chris,

I haven't used ours to rake yet, but envisioned either using it in a mostly flat/horizontal position pushing forwards, or in a moderately to steeply angled position going backwards.

What angle did you use it at?

When we tried to move piles of rocks without the bar, it just stalled, (actually we got to the point of spinning the tires) without much ability to penetrate into them, but with it, we could pretty easily fill the bucket- although to be honest, we did kinda jiggle the tilt while pushing in (like you would with a hand shovel), and while that didn't seem to help much pre-PTB, it greatly helped with the PTB.

Good luck with it, and keep on tractoring- safely!

Yep my thoughts too! Angle is important to get the most out of the Piranha. I am still learning depending on what I am trying to do. Still very impressed. As I have mentioned before, I haven't had much luck with it pulling stuff out with the blade above ground but if just below ground and at the 'right' angle, it impresses me.

When going into the brush, I keep it low and relatively level and then lift and curl the bucket up. It works OK I guess, but it just seems like a lot of the vines, etc., slip off. Back dragging I keep it about 45 degrees down depending on what I am working in. I'm sure my technique needs work....hmmmm, maybe Ill go work on that right now! : )

Okay tollster... sorry no videos but a few pics to show my latest digging project with Piranha!
Cutting into a 20% grade terracing above the retaining wall I am building and backfilling with the cut away. Part way into the job when these photos were taken today but I cut down at the highest point, four feet today!

Re: Piranha tooth bar using with forks?

Gentlemen; I am considering buying the Piranah tooth bar for my BX 24. I see in the photo that there is a wider open area on both ends of the bar. I have already purchased the Bxpanded forks for my loader and I love the advantage and flexibility of being able to slide them out wide or narrow depending on what I am lifting. I am assuming that these two open areas are to allow for use of these forks without having to take the toothbar off the loader then? If that is the case, then I will not be able to slide my forks back and forth on the loader rim? I guess what I am asking is, will my forks work with this toothbar without my having to take it off and on?. I dont use the forks very often so i guess it wouldnt be that big of a deal if I had to switch them out seeing as how there are only two bolts holding it on. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I don't have forks yet but per the the BXpanded website, "The standard BX model provides spacing for use of the BXpanded Quick-On forks so you can haul off that debris you just chewed up!". So, at least their forks are compatible. No idea if yours are but if you have dimensions of your forks, a phone call or email to BXpanded would probably answer your question quickly. They are very responsive. I called them with a question regarding their bucket hooks and they easily answered it and were very friendly.

What I am wondering is whether the forks fit and work only at the ends or also between any of the big teeth? Seems that they would be bearing on the point of the little teeth and not so sure that is a good idea.
