i was being optimistic i think on the minutes issue.. :)

Yes, I concur, there are deputys that live about a 1/2 mile away, if they are at home.. BUT, they need Back-Up before they respond..So the time could double....Your on your own, much like most of the country....Ya only need to hold out how long????

Since it has a trigger safety, the obvious danger to my well-being was having to tell the wife that I had lost her pistol.
The trigger safety pistols are normally pretty safe but I remember a thread on a gun forum about a Glock owner that sat down in his car and shot a hole in his door. IIRC his well used leather holster had curled to where a piece of leather was against the trigger safety and when he sat down it actually pulled the trigger back firing it.Just a bit of info that may help someone.

True..Glocks are very safe guns, but one must ensure their equipment is in proper condition.
Kahr's, if they're still like the MK9 I owned years ago, depend on a long trigger pull.

Since none my carry guns have a mechical safety, I don't carry IWB. For one thing, it's not comfortable for me...secondly, reholstering is a hassle...my guess is, reholstering is when most negligient discharges happen.

My CWP was approved on 6/6/12 and should arrive in the mail in a week or so.

On my "ranch" I often open carry mostly due to foxes, coyotes, etc.

I have a Taurus 24x7 Titanium 9mm... Eventually it will be my wifes gun (I'm looking for another gun now...)

I only have an open carry holster now, my USMC Sniper buddy (Godfather to my youngest) is going to help me get the "right" for me concealed holster...

On my open station tractor what I REALLY want is something like ATV shotgun mounts, or a shotgun holster on the tractor, I'd like to carry a .22 or my Rem 1100 12 gauge auto for additional range... Also for deer season...

Be well,
David

We carried Glocks and were required to keep them concealed at all times so most of us wore vests. One style had drawstrings on each side that had a small round holder.

Our trainers told us about a deputy who had the round holder get caught in the trigger when he was holstering causing a discharge. Fortunately he was not seriously injured. I guess no loaded weapon is ever foolproof, so extreme care must be taken by the operator.

A VERY good reason to ALSO practice "draw & shoot" not simply target shooting...

Be well,

I remember in 1964, when one of our officers got off duty, put his .45 Colt semi-auto in his right front pocket, sat down in the right front seat of a friend's car, and it went off. It didn't penetrate; just burned a trail down his leg to the knee, out through the knee of his slacks, and into the car door.

Look into USPSA AND IDPA Pistol matches.
You will find me at USPSA MATCHES a couple times a month!!

Ga state and NC state USPSA championship matches are coming up in the next few months.....

USPSA Matches have up to 32 round count stages and may have as many as 9 stages in a few hours.....

All shooting I do is "from the holster". All of our qualifications were timed strings from the holster in the concealed position. It just becomes second nature.

I no longer practice as often as I should though.

A deputy in an adjoining county put his 1911 in a Yaqui Slide and it discharged leaving a furrow in his right cheek; painful and embarrassing.

Ours, too, are timed strings from the holster, but not in a concealed position. However, most of my "practice" shooting is at an indoor range where drawing and shooting from the holster is prohibited.
