Now I know why cabs are good. I had to plow 3-4 inches of slush in the pouring rain this morning. I was afraid if it got cold it would be 3-4 inches of something else. I got some wet.

Yea! I spent a couple of hours clearing everything out here, and wet is right. It had been raining for a while when I went out, and there was 7" of snow that was starting to crust over. The trees here are icing up pretty well now....... messy day!

yup, we got the same thing, about 2-3" of snow and 3" of rain, rained pretty hard all day, that new canopy top sure helped keeping the upper body dry and I didn't take any chances, I wore my military type rain pants I got from a buddy in the guard, wore the top part also so I was dry for once. with the canopy you still have to wear the rain gear but at least it's not like sitting in the shower, you don't have to wear the hood so you do have much more control and comfort.

We had a good eight inches here this morning. It got reduced quite a bit by the rain. I was really impressed by how well my blower still moved it ! :) Only once did i have to shut it down to clear a clog. My neighbor came over (2 houses down)and asked what i'd charge to clear his driveway. Seems his walk behind just couldn't handle it. I told him beer or a little fuel money and i'd be good to go. I must say that at least a third of my seat time seems to be in winter......... i sure would like one of those newfangled cab tractors !!

Rain? :( I'm having a hard time remembering what it is.

Now, now, Welding, it wasn't that long ago when it seemed like Texas was practically underwater!:D Here in north GA. we've actually been getting some decent rain after a miserably dry last year. Course as always when you own a little land you're trying to do something with, it's either feast or famine! Keeping my fingers crossed for this summer!

You're lucky! It snowed, blowed and blowed, got warm for a bit and went back to snowing. Now my pole shed sliding doors are stuck in 3" of ice and can't be opened. Do'h!!

My options are now 18" shovel, 22" shovel or 8 hp walk behind blower. Nice.

John,

I grew up in northern Ill. and left after college to sow my oats. Found out that there are actually places on this earth where summer lasts longer than 2 1/2 weeks! Couldn't drag me north of the Mason-Dixon now for anything more than a short visit! During the summer!! I feel for you, brother, but can't say I'm not looking forward to re-seeding next week in 60-70 degree temps!

I had fun in it too. I took the building owner's JCB 4wd backhoe/bucket out and scraped the ice up before the cold hit. Good thing too, everything that's not scraped is a sheet of ice at least 2" thick.

The thing that gets to you running an open tractor in cold rain/wet snow is that the rain lands on your more or less horizontal thighs which aren't doing much work to keep the muscles warm, even less than the rest of you. Rainsuit? What's that?

Snow? I saw that once on one of those "Rocky" movies. I think Stallone went walking through it or something. It looked really cold. I'll pass.

My LB1914 doesn't have an oem or aftermarket cab available so you have to improvise. May not look pretty but I kept dry yesterday.

Yeah i got soaked the first time i went out. Then I put a little cheapo ingenuity together and used 2 C-clamps and a piece of 1/4" plywood and maid myself a roof.

I was a real "lamer" during the 6.5+ snow/rain (?) event yesterday as I did not go out and use all my fancyass goretex clothes and plow when things were managible. Instead I waited until this morning after everything froze up and managed to sever in many places my 75' outdoor electrical extension cord with my box blade scarifiers and the cutting edge of my FEL :( after I "carefully" tried to get the extension cord out from under the frozen stuff :(. Jay

PS: Part of the "learning curve".

I guess it was not plugged when you did that.

Jay,
Next time maybe plug it into something slightly too big for it and it ought to melt itself out. Might even cause a small fire for some extra excitement...

Thanks for the laugh :D! You know everytime I think that I finally know what I am doing I do something that proves otherwise . I am a "stimulus junkie", but I am not as extreme as I used to be :p. Jay :)

We got the freezing rain first, and then the snow. I wear a rain suit and then when I'm done I dry off the tractor and then I sit by the fireplace and have coffee and cookies and look out the window at my handiwork.:)

Could have, should have, would have..... hindsight is always so "20-20". Jay

PS: I did go out and purchase a better 100' outdoor extension cord. We'll see how long it lasts . Jay
