I recently bought a NH TZ24DA and was wondering if it would pull a turning plow? I live in TN in an area properly named stoney creek and not sure if the hydro will pull one through rocky soil. Any suggestions?
Your specs show 24 HP @ the engine and 18 @ the PTO...
Your drawbar HP should be in the 14 HP range...
Your tractor is light and that will be the most hindrance...
I would think that a 10" or 12" small bottom plow is do-able...
I was thinking about a single 12. Do you think it would struggle with a tiller box? For what im doing I could use it the first year and then a turner would be easier after the first turning. This soil will be virgin.
Your little ford is about the same size as my old JD 2305. They love to pull a 12 inch Brinly plow in the spring when the ground is soft. Later in the summer when the ground is dry and hard, the plow sometimes struggles because it doesn't have enough weight to sink deep into the ground.
I pulled a 2 bottom 12" plow with a Kubota B7800 in really rocky soil and heavy sod. It struggled with the first time around and then got better(easier). My 30 Hp compact tractor is 4wd, with loaded rear ag. tires. I also have a 22 Hp Kubota with a rear tiller. I quit using that as the rocky soil caused it to rattle my teeth. Tractor Supply carries a line of single bottom plows, as do others.(County Line, King Kutter, Howse, etc.). If there's a dealer in your area they may be able to tell you the capabilities of your machine. Good luck!
