I ran 000 copper wire to my barn and I had a real bugger of a time getting it through a 4" conduit. I should have used 6" conduit.

.... yee-ha ...... I guess it will be interesting running my 0000/0000/00 AL URD thru 2" conduit then. :D

You weren't by chance using a wire puller were you ?

Dargo, got it... yep, you needed lots of power.

Yep, more is always better.

Am not *currently* planning on an A/C in the building, that would certainly add to the load. My air compressor is puny... only about 7 CFM .

Guess I'll have to reassess just how much $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I want to spend on electrical service to the building..groan:eek:

rswyan, once I was having difficulty getting a wire thru a tight pipe... I squirted about 10 squrts of greese into the pipe and along the wire... well, made it slip thru MUCH easier!! Might try that, shouldn't hurt since you are using ground contact wire anyway.

Just got my barn built finally.
30 x 40 x 12 high.
1320 sq ft of concrete. 4" thick slab with beams all rebar (included a sidewalk down the 40' side).
Insulated with vinyl backed insulation.
Framed for doors on each end.
1 walk in door.
$18,500

Now I have a hundred things to do, electrical, plumbing, organizing stuff. Waiting for cooler weather.

I am an electrician and you can buy a substance called 'Cable Goo' or similar that you squirt in the conduit as you are pulling and it makes pulls soooooo much easier. Different names exist but I bet one of the box stores carry it.

Great thread guys.

RobA, I live in Western New York (4o miles South East of
Buffalo) and was wondering if you could ask your builder if he knows of any Amish builders in my area. I will be building soon and have not had any luck in locating Amish builders in my area.

Thanks,
Keith

I'll ask him. I know that he and his family have been in this area for years but you never know. I may not be talking to him for a couple of weeks though.

I have had many buildings built by the amish, all have been excellent. You will get more for your money, they know how to purchase materials at the best prices for good quality. and do fine work. (By the way thats a great looking building)

I live in Nj and have had the amish build a riding arena and they did a great job. I have lost contact with them do you have a way or a number to contact any of them. I am going to put up a new pole barn but I want it to look old. Thanks Lou

I'll ask him but he and is family are from this area of PA. I know what you mean about finding Amish builders. When I started the project I wanted to look for one but had no idea how to get in touch. It just happened that the excavator I am using for was working on a project where there was an Amish builder so it was easy to contact him.

Are there any other Amish businesses near you? Maybe you could drop by and ask them.

ok this is an old thread gonna try to bring back to life. If Morton buildings are twice the price are they worth it? What are the differences?

Sawtooth, a lot has changed in 4 years. I would start a new thread about this. It's easier to keep things straight.
