Your post was very good and makes sense. Ive often thought that I should get another carry permit (I had one from Indiana for years and let it expire when I moved away). Presently I own several guns that Ive obtained (all legally) from second hand sources years ago, way back before guns were kept track of. Only one gun I own did I buy new and that was 16 years ago at a gun show.
My point is that its unlikely that the government knows that I own any of them. The only one with a paper trail to me is the one I bought at the show 16 years ago and show sales were as close to paperless as you could get back then. I have no intention of telling them either.
My dilemma is do I take the chance of obtaining a carry permit and registering my guns or do I remain nameless, faceless and armed. For now, I think I prefer the latter. I hate to not support a cause that I do believe in but I also hate to be one of those that are red flagged if things go bad. Is that paranoia or what.

I am not terrorized and it's not because of my little pop guns and in a scenerio you described, I wouldn't roll over and let his family starve to death either.

I was just speaking in general what would may happen, not you specifically. The simple fact is if you do not arms during such a situation, any persons family is in jeporady.

Example the King LA riots in the early 90's the ones who were not harmed were people displaying arms.Same with Katrina a show of Arms stopped most looting in well banded neigborhoods.
Criminals will choose the path of least resistance and that is the unarmed.

If it's paranoia, I have it also. I keep 2 lists of serial #s; guns with paperwork, and those without. We won't lose our rights all at once; they will gradually be whittled away in the name of the "Public Good."

Buy a .45 Colt, and fill out the paperwork. then you'll have a reason to get the permit.

If things go bad it will be time to step up to the plate, not bury the guns. IMHO

I wont be burying them but I also dont want someone knocking at the door and telling me to throw them all in the collection box either. A big part of me says its best just to keep them under wraps.

Just to add to my paranoia, I havent received anything from the NRA in years and all the sudden today I get a letter from them, one day after I post on this thread.
Gentlemen, we are being watched. ;)

NSA and NRO can track anything, but the NRA isn't part of that arm of the gov't;)!

RayH - I am not familiar with West Virginia's requirements for a concealed carry permit but in Florida you are not required to declare or register any guns you own in order to receive a permit. Hopefully West Virginia's requirements are similiar.

Its been awhile since I looked into it but if I recall, in WV you need to take a class and register a firearm as your carry weapon.

I have lived in w.va. all my life,,and their ain't no need to go around carrying a gun, legal or illegal,,,now maybe if you was camping out or something like that,,,,but just going about your normal bussiness, they ain't no need,,,,,I got plenty of guns, and ain't nobody going to make a law and take them away from me,,been hunting all my life,,,at home,,I'm loaded for bear,,this would be wrong place to come messing around if you was up to no good,,,,many of those people that carry guns are retarded, and lord only knows what retarded people will do at times.

Now,in newyork city or los angles,,or miami,,yeah,,might be a real good idea to have one at least in your car,,if you wasn't retarded that is.

Main thing for me is,I know where to go get one,so's if I'm out and somebody would point a gun at me,he better go ahead and shoot,,cause if he don't,I'll go get one of mine,,,and if he comes to my house,,I'm ready....just depends on where you live,,myself,,would never ever live in one of those places where you gotta carry a gun in order to prevent somebody from shooting you or your family,,,how the people who live there ever let it get to that point to begin with is something I never understood,,thingy
