I don't want to hijack the thread. But there is something for inspiration. Jeep made in Philippines. It usually has Toyota or Isuzu mechanicals. The sheetmetal is either hot zink or stainless steel. No heat or AC.

One guy told me they run between 3000 to 6000 USD new. 1500 if you supply your own engine. About 1100 USD to ship from Philippines to USA port.

Thanks Buggs! I'm trying to sell it for pretty much what I've got into it... but so far no luck. That's ok. I could use the cash, but don't mind keeping it either.

For it to be capable it needs a 2" lift, weld the rear, and taller gears... and I'm not willing to put $1,000 into it. It does great if you can keep your speed and rpms up... but struggles when things are slow and rough.

I'd like to try a budget 1/4T truggy next.

I would like (at some point) to take a 4x4 Ford Ranger or similar size small druck drivetrain, replace the engine, transmission and tcase with the engine/ transaxle out of a FWD car (older Civic perhaps?), chop the frame ahead of the engine, bob the back and put a dump bed on it...
Not to make it street legal, but to have a offroad vehicle that can haul more than the RTV can.

I just e-mailed someone on kijiji who's got a pair of Rockwell axles and a divorced t-case... looking for trades... man, that would be ideal. I'd throw those under a $500 2wd S10... I can get 38" Michelin XMLs for $60 each all day long....weld the rear... cheap woods beater.

There is a used car place here that sells Japanese mini-trucks. Most are 4WD and many are dumpers...some with 4-passenger seating and dump beds and road legal...with a footprint about the size of a 4-passenger UTV. Sadly, they are not a "poor man's" vehicle, typically costing $6k to $9k (for a 15 to 20 year old vehicle!).
