a trick which I haven't seen anybody use in years is two tow chains with a tire (sans rim) between them. If you need to "jerk" the stuck vehicle a little, the tire absorbs the initial shock yet you will still give them a "snap."
We used to pull a drag to spread the gravel on our dirt road.
2 chains were the towing method and from time to time we'd snag something and I feared flying chains and or damaged bumper.
I inserted small tires midway in both tow chains and that solved all the problems as the tires made nice 'shock absorbers'.
Worked great!
