Very nice, did you start with the trailer part then proceed to the saw or is this just the first of many pictures?

How did you square the trailer up, some carefull welding/tacking?
What's that axile rated for?

thanks

Yes, since this was my first big welding project I started with the frame first. I purchased all the steel cut to specific size. It was more expensive but I didn’t have any thing to cut the steel at that time. I basically tack welded all the sections on and with a t-square and level checked it. The length is 16’ and is supported by the four tube steel columns I have at each end. This holds the weight of the logs. I usually lift the frame off the ground a few inches and level it before I start milling. I’m not sure what the axle supports since it only supports the sawmill frame. It was a left over axle my father had. I will post some photos of the saw. I built a chain saw mill thinking a band saw mill would be too difficult. After completing it I realized the band saw mill wouldn’t be that bad. That is my next project. I will send some more photos.

Scott, I'd be happy to send you some detail pictures of mine with idea's to improve the setup. I started out just the opposite from you, I built the cutting head first and now slowly getting the track system created. I just wanted to have a little proof-of-concept first before jumping in with both feet.

I'm creating a semi perminant set of tracks out of 4"x18' cast iron water pipes left over from a construction site. They are super rigid and HEAVY. I'm going to bolt a couple of angle pieces to align them and then used RR ties to support the logs.

It's been too rainy and wet here the last month to do anything that's not on solid pavement.

That would be great! I definately need ideas on building the cutting head. Here is my e-mail address. scbarret@nortelnetworks.com. I posted some additional photo's of the building phases and my design of the cutting head.

Here is a cap weld on tube steel. I was proud of this one so I figure I'd add it in. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
