check "replacement" burners while at the store. and make sure what ever you get, can use a cheap generic off brand replacement burner.

have had to replace a few over the years on different grills. the replacement burners was not a prefect fit (generic off brand burner) and the hoses that extend from the burner to across the inside and down to the air way holes, to were gas line connects. those hoses are kinda of a pain to stretch and pull and bend without causing the hoses to crimp and pinch. but was fairly easy thing to do. cost of 40 (bought to different size replacement burners) then about 30 minutes total (cleaning mainly) to pull the old and put in the new burner. and then time to take the other replacement burner back.

In Brin's defense some Possum's do have coarse hair sticking out of their tails.. I don't know if it is an age thing, or region thing, but I have seen them with coarse hairs and some as slick and hairless as they come.. Brin is NOT crazy.

Yeah Bob here is a sick thought...what about all the times him and his kin have been in there that nobody knew about.

My big smoker has a grease bucket hanging from it and possums love to knock it down and eat out of it nasty little buggers.

edit: And quite a few I see have quite a bit of stiff hair on them I grab them by the tail sometimes and throw them out of the garage when I dont have a 22 rifle handy their tail feels like a hair brush.

pink nose....Yeah, he was a possum...

As far as the Weber...from what I have gathered checking reviews on the internet....the older grills like yours and the one I am replacing ( 14 yrs. old ) lasted a long...long time but now the newer versions are mostly made in China and are junk and wear out and rust within 2 to 4 yrs....So that is why I want to spend as little as possible this time.....and skip the stainless steel ones with all the bells & whistles --just more to break.. So here is the one I think we are going to get tomorrow...see what you think.

Interesting, our possums down here have not developed the tail hair as the ones north obviously have, no doubt evolution in progress. Perhaps cooler temps are in our future. I will consult with Al Gore in that regard the very next time I get the chance.

I just left HD about an hour ago, and I had a quick look at the Webers. The few they had looked as though they had not changed much (except for the price up about 50$).

I did notice that they were touting a cast iron grate included but valued at 39$
So, I suspect the grills came with a cheaper grate, which is the first thing to check as my experience dictates, the grate is key, second only to the burner.
I did not look at the other brands. I only check the Weber because I recomended it.

The 2 burner I checked is the model most comparable to the one i have. I would buy it again if I had to replace mine.
Since you have experience with the Weber, I would be interested in knowing you opion should you buy the lesser grill.

Hmm....I know...we need to see if we can get "Turtle Man" to give us the real story on possum tales....er...tails....have you seen him on TV...catches skunks, foxes, snapping turtles, snakes, etc. with his hands (on occasion uses gloves). That guy has been up close and personal with just about everything.

And, Brin, I now believe that a country boy like you truly knows a bushy tail from a slick tail.:fox:

I had one by the tail just last year. Chased my secretary round the office with it too!

The girls in the office were feeding the stray cats, even brought in a dog house for the cats to have a warm place to stay. One day she said a possum was out eating the cats feed. When I got there, he was inside the dog house.

Well I tried turning the dog house on end and shaking it, that possum wouldn't budge. So I waited a minute, saw its tail and grabbed it. Well, the screaming started, and I just had to tease her a bit.

I will agree with Brin, possums here in the Midwest have quite a bit of coarse hair. Now I would stop short of calling it bushy, but it was hairy.

Oh, for those that are wondering - the possum was very well mannered. Of course I was trying to keep a bit of g force on him by swinging him in figure eights as I ran - couldn't risk him doubling back up my arm and having the girls listen me scream :)

Dean if that possum had sunk his fangs in your arm, you would have screamed like a little girl!.. Those things can be a nasty customer, and they have some real teeth! I would have loved to see a video of you swinging a possum around:)

So now Soundguy and some of you others have me worried I am just buying a new home for the Possum...Hmmm ?

I am going to do my best to use hardware cloth to seal the bugger out...I will also use one of those sticky sheet traps under the new grill....When we get it...

Went to HD this AM with the Mrs. and they were out of stock on the grill we wanted...tried to sell me a more expensive one...I said no so they are ordering one and will deliver it our house assembled when it comes in a week...that is pretty gracious and good service....I have found out these new gas grills do not use ceramic briquets and therefore the food does not taste the same...not like it has been grilled on an real charcoal grill...we had ceramic briquets on our old grill ...so I went online and saw where folks add a grate and the briquets to the new grills so I have those ordered as well...

I don't know if the taste difference is true....anyone else have one of the new fangled gas grills without the briquets care to comment. ?
