Possum getting away

I have tried to find out what the law was on this matter. From what I have read it appears that it is illegal to relocate coyotes anywhere except into a foxpen. There is a foxpen about 80 miles away and I am sure they would love to have a free coyote.

OK, I gotta ask...

...what's a foxpen?

Duh!! Must be a place you put free coyotes:laughing:

We don't have such in Texas.... no free coyotes:thumbsup:

The foxpens in our area are large tracts, one is about 800 acres, that are hunting leases for owners of fox hounds. They have 8' tall fences with a hotwire at the top and bottom and a cleared spot on each side of the fence.

They run their fox hounds for pleasure or competition in these pens. They do not fox hunt on horses. Foxes are very scarce in our area so they supplement them with coyotes.

Animals are not usually killed in these chases though it sometimes happens. The fox usually winds up safe in it's burrow and the hunt is concluded. The unlucky slow, sick or injured fox will usually have a swift death.

We have very few fox in my part of Kansas. Most of the fox have moved to town to keep the coyotes from getting them. I see a fox ocassionly here in town catching bugs and toads under the street lights. Coyotes may be the reason fox are scarce in your area tallho8.

Here in northern New Jersey we had a terrible problem with the overpopulation of canadian geese.... until the fox returned.

Now I understand.... I like the idea of putting coyotes in a large pen and harassing them regularly. However, am sure that coyotes are quite predatory on any foxes that do happen to be inside the same pen.

Dudley,

If that's the foxpen on Middle Road [hwy 437], it's about 3-4 miles up the road from me - - I've seen coyotes trotting along the inside perimeter of the fence from time to time. There are several campers just inside the gate that stay put - - they are used once a month when people show up with their dogs.

On the other hand, I've seen 2 red foxes on my place in the 17 years we've lived here.

Good luck with your trap.

Jack

I've been waiting for the coyote trap from the humane society for over a month and I keep getting photos of the coyote on my game camera and have been worrying about him getting my wife's pygmy goats.

A few nights ago I was watching Billy The Exterminator on A&E TV and my wife said "why don't you call him?" So I did. It really surprised me when they said he would come out to see if he could catch it. He said that coyotes are very hard to catch in a live trap but he will give it a try.

This evening he came out and set up a trap and said to call him in the morning and tell him if he caught anything. If not he will try different bait tomorrow night. If he catches it we will be on his TV show. I have to remember to wear my TBN cap. :)

We want your autograph before you become famous.

If they don't get busy and catch this coyote, I'll never be famous. :(

They must have taken the weekend off and gone to Bourbon St. because I didn't hear from them all weekend. Hope they make it back today to set the live bait in the trap.

They have a few other cases they are working at the same time and they will only be in this area for another week. They have been looking for a church with bats in the belfry for a Halloween show. I don't know if they found one yet but there are many old churches in the New Orleans area.

Yes Jack, that is probably the closest one to me now. There is another one over in Livingston. There used to be one named the Crying Range on the West side of the Bombing Range just west of you straddling the Tangipahoa-St. Tammany line. While we were coon hunting in the Bombing Range we used to be able to hear them running the fox hounds over in the Crying Range.
Back in the 1980s you could hear the dogs from about 3 miles away on a calm night.
