We are looking at Kubota 7610 or a Kioti CK20 tractor and looking for a good Post hole digger for doing 6 and 9 inch holes.

What would be good models and prices?

Thanks

kcook, I found mine in the local paper but there are three places I can think of right off one is agri-supply the next is TSC and finally northern tool /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I purchased mine from TSC. It's a Speeco. Not a heavy duty one, but it has dug all the holes around my place. I have a 12" auger. Price was $350.

I bought a Leinbach off ebay(new). Pretty well built. They list them often on e-bay.

For the Compact tractors the Leinbach L7200JR is by far the best quality for the money. Another BIG plus about it is that it is manufactured here in the USA (North Carolina) I carry the Post hold diggers and we have never had troubles or complaints out of them. After reading this thread I see that Steve Brittain is on TBN and he bought his from us. HI Steve. Here is a L7200JR on a 30 HP agco

How many posts are you going to put in? I bought the cheapy at TSC, with a 9" auger. It's done about 150 holes, and it works fine. I'd buy another.

I've got a Kubota BX24 and the L7200JR looks interesting. Certainly a better price than whatever my dealer mentioned he carries for about $800. A question about using these. Does the tractor need to be level to dig a hole? The reason I ask is my land is fairly sloped, I'm cutting trails around the property to make use of it, but would like to put posts in for a pole building/shop and fencing without having to clear out too much of the woods, in which case the tractor is going to be sitting on the slope while drilling.

Thanks!

IF you can park the tractor so it is pointing straight up or down the slope the auger can dig a straight hole. If you have to park sideways on the hill you can adjust the 3 point to level the auger for each hole (to a limited degree). I seem to have problems drilling straight holes due to rocks and other objects that knock the auger off of the desired path. I've found it best to use a larger auger 9 or 12" and do the best you can. Then when you put the post in there is plenty of slop to get the post exactly where it needs to be.

Excellent job Bill. This is what is called Yankee inginuity, and American quality.

Also have a Speeco from TSC. I did all the holes for our pasture fence and the yard fence with it. It's held up pretty well, but if I was buying today, I would buy a system with a different drill point. In our area TSC is no longer selling the Speeco model I have, but they still have the replacement tips and blades. The new unit they sell has a heavier braced shaft holding the gearbox and the augers sold with it have what they call a fishtail drill tip. I understand this type of bit will start the auger easier in harder ground.
Wasn't an issue when I first bought my unit (thank goodness), but as dry as things were this summer, I really could have used any advantage I could get. While drilling a few holes for some garden fencing, I had to do some pretty dangerous and stupid things to add weight to the auger. Definitely NOT OSHA approved!!
