I have some questions about a phd I just bought used. It is a continental belton (ag-miear) with a 9" auger. The auger has 4 replacable teeth but for the life of me I can't figure out how they replace. They kinda clamp in between 2 pieces of steel but I don't see what secures them there. They don't need replaced now, I'm just curious what holds them in. Also, the gearbox has a hole that faces the operator. I assume it is for a 1/2 " pipe so you can guide the digger from the tractor seat. I guess it requires 1/2" water pipe? It seams easy to move, would conduit work for weight savings? I'm sure if I bump something conduit will bend fairly easily, but scraps are easy to come by. The phd came with all the liturature, but it doesn't mention either of these items. Pretty cheesy instructions, kinda like something from hft.

I've been wanting a phd for a while now. I picked this one and a KK 6' rear blade in almost new shape for 400.00. Didn't really need the blade, but it seemed like a reasonable price to me. TIA, Mark

Put in some pictures. That'll help more than anything. The hole you're talking about is probably for a guide-bar you can use from the tractor seat to do some fine adjustments on the position of the auger tip. Some PHDs have these as options. I'm not too much help. But I'm sure they're many here who can help you. But, as they always say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

They are probably Pengo type teeth. If your teeth "wiggle" a little when you move them, then I'll bet this is what they are. If they are, you drive them out from the back with a punch or chisel etc. They are held in place with a short length of round vinyl round material that threads through a hole, then you drive the teeth back on over the vinyl and it wedges the teeth in.

Thanks guys. I didn't have a camera with me when I bought it and it's 140 miles away so I can't look at it. They didn't seem to wiggle but I'll check it out closer when I get back. It had been stored drilled in the ground so the teeth may be rusted although they didn't apear to be. While drilling it into the ground may be a simple way to store it I won't be doing it that way. Just doesn't seem right to me.
