Voting for rating a thread must go.

IMHO -
-use is based on another click
-original authors of post may be indeed five star rated, BUT other posters may side track thread, and then the vote is skewed.

I'd like to keep as much flak bait out of posting as needed. No rating of posters and threads should be allowed.

IMHO

And I just now looked at the attached picture in post #17 here and the back button would take me back to post #16 every time.:D

But then I tried it again, going to it from the above link, and when I go to the picture, then back to post #17.

More gremlins. I just tried it again, and I went back to post number 6 every time, too.

Mike,
Yes, that's what I'm talking about...
I'm using the same browser as Bird "IE 6.0.2900.2180 with the SP2 update."

It takes me back to the first post after viewing an attachment (in a thread not previously viewed) ...or in your case, the 6th post because that's where the thread started for you.
I will guess???... if you view up to post 20, for example, and start the next day to read the thread, it would start at post 20....after that, when viewing an image and going back would take you to post 20...Did I make myself clear (as MUd)???

This doesn't fix the problem- but one of the best things about Firefox (and the new IE 7 beta) is that you can open photos in a new "tab" by middle clicking them (when your done viewing the photo, just close the tab). It avoids having to use the back button and so you won't ever lose your place in a thread- it also avoids having to reload the page when you use the back button. I switched to Firefox based on a reccomendation this forum and once you get used to tabbed browsing, you'll never go back. The new IE should have this feature.

I am using IE IE 6.0.2900.2180 with the SP2 update as well. I am getting around the same problem by right clicking on the image file and opening it in another window. It's not a great fix but it will let you remain in the same place in the threads. In fact, you can have all the images open at the same time as the thread and go back and forth between them.
I also use Firefox and open the images in another tab. Same thing almost but you are only running one Firefox where with IE you are running the program with each image you open.

The back button thing is going to be an issue if you've set your browser to check for updates every time you visit a page. Because then, instead of loading the page from cache (and coming back to the spot you were on) it will reload the page fresh.

At least, I think that's it. Check your internet options for settings that affect how often it checks for new page updates.

You got mail

I just logged in and for the first time I noticed I have a private message. I miss the flashing icon or even other discussion groups that use this forum program pops up a window when you got mail.

So others may want to always look at the upper right corner to see if they got mail until a fix is in place.

When I look at a pic, the back button takes me to the top of the page too.

The site has been loading extremely slow the last 2 days...I mean excruciatingly slow especially when prview/post and jump back to the forum. Any reason for that? Then, every once in a while it jumps pretty fast, but mostly very slow. I keep several pages open and can really notice the difference. I have Adelphia Cable and the other sites just fly.

Oh, of course when I previewed this post it just flew...hope it stays that way.
